There was a time when Tripod was the best hosting for newbies, in my opinion. I haven't been around long enough on the internet to know.

The first host I used was way back in 1998, I think it was called AngelFire.

yeah, actually i can in this case. when i was 14, the web was still really new, and was not introduced in elementary schools like it is now. i never had used the internet till 7th grade, and almost everyone that was lucky enough to have a computer at home that might have internet only had aol. so yeah, it was a big deal at 14 to be making programs and doing html. now it is something that 13 year old children are being taught in school. the school i taught compters at for a year, taught children in 1st grade how to write programs that could control remote robots they would make. things are much different.

HOW many adverts? :S

i had no adverts, but, freewebservers loaded me down with a ton. :S

Since when was Microsoft a Free Host?

Adam

Geocities was founded in 1994.

Tripod was founded in 1995.

Angelfire was bought by Lycos after Tripod was established. Was unable to find a date as to when Angelfire was founded. But Lycos considers Angelfire to be the sister site to Tripod.
