New fellow over here needs some assistance finally choosing a forum. I immediatly joined as I saw a post about forums and since I am also having a similar choosing dilemma, I thin kyou guys can help a lot:-)

Here's the quick scenario. I was looking to get phpbb, it's admin friendly, simple enough to use for a non-techy guy like me and it's free right. But I want to build a strong forum with excellent SEO capabilities that also has good amount of features to make it, well, unique for new posters.

Thanks to this forum, I discovered Mybb. I'm starting to do the research on it. And my main important questions as of now that I am yet find elsewhere:

If I decide to go with Phpbb to start, can I convert it to vBulletin without affecting current members?

Will Appreciate your reply. Thanks.

Yes. vBulletin does provide a converter if you purchase it in the future :). It's available in the "Members Area". I'm not sure about myBB, but for phpBB, yes, it's definitely available.

It's called impex if I remembered correctly.

It converts your user database/topics and etc (i.e. whatever's in SQL that's applicable to vB and phpBB alike).

I suppose another factor is if you really want to pay the $$$ for a Vbb. I am not sure how to edit the templates, but I know phpBB is easy i fyou know html.

I know nothing on MyBB

Yun and Sain. Thanks for the response, I found what I was looking for very fast.

Ivbulletin has so much benefits and like food, ingredients you can add! Icocontent, vbseo and the security within the system as I keep doing with my homework seems very reliable.

Thanks for the replies. My fine welcome points to you two.

I've pretty much always been a MyBB user so I'm not sure what it's like for converting to or from another board, but what I can tell you is it's pretty secure, easy to use and there's a lot of mods and templates available for it.

If you want a free alternative to vbulletin I'd go with MyBB

I've always used vBulletin, it's quite pricey. But worth it.
