This went around the office yesterday. Most people could make it switch directions.

I think I saw it for a split second, but no I really can't see anti.
Could someone nice make up a little paint annotation about how it's anti if possible? :p

October 10th, 2007, 17:31

Look to one side, away from the .gif
It takes time, but it'll turn itself around, when it does, go back to looking at the picture. (Do the same if you want to switch back)

Haha, maybe it's fixed.. just for you ;)
*EDIT* Try covering the top and only look at the feet, then concentrate on which way the feet turns.

Watch the shadow on the ground for a second and then look at the figure again.

I don't think it's an optical illusion, your percieved direction depends on how you look at the image, how you visualize the clock in your head .... probably you do that automatically .....

It isn't really turning. It's all an illusion. oldman2

I really can't get it to go the other way.

The day before yesterday I was looking at it with someone from college... and it switched for both of us at the same time. Explanations?

I managed to force it to switch direction, but that was through intense concentration. I had to concentrate really hard and imagine the dancer was turning the other direction for that to happen. But it reverts instantly once I even get distracted the slightest.
Otherwise, it stays at only one direction for me.
EDIT: I guess I forgot to mention the direction. It turns clockwise for me.

That's really cool :), I can get it to change both ways. It's the way the legs move. It always goes the same way, But it is your perception that decides which way it goes.
Keagle
October 13th, 2007, 10:53
Yeah - that's how I change it. Use the legs.

Now the change of direction stays for me, somehow.

Take a look at the image below...
http://gopics.biz/show.php/3257_woman.gif.html
Which direction is the woman spinning?
Clockwise or Anti-Clockwise?
Compare the answer with friends and family, or in this case, post your reply.
Note: There is no trickery in this image and it does not change direction.

P.S For me the woman is spinning Anti-Clockwise ;)

I'd already sussed out it wasn't an optical illusion, you only have to look at it objectively - knowing that even optical illusions are not real, you apply logic, the only thing that changes is the way you percieve the clock and where you focus on the image .... it's clever though ...

Look just off to the side of the img and it will change to that direction, Look at the other side of the image and it will change to the other direction, however everytime I look dead on i get anti-clockwise!
