There are not very many hosts that use Canadian-based data centers, for the simple reason that they are not in a good geographic location (in terms of latency and the like). However, if you are looking for a Canadian-based data center, I am sure others are, as well - could this be a great opportunity in the making?

Wouldn't US DC's been nearly the same?

Decker, what's legal in Canada that is illegal in the U.S.?

There are some things not covered by copyright protection if I remeber correct, but the request I think this one is aimed at (a free one) 'apparently' has to be very specific and someone mentioned Canada, I don't think even there it would apply, possibly only offshore China.

Ah, Ok. I know China, Russia, and Panama are great places to host anything illegal. ;) I'll have to check into this Canada angle.

Decker, what's legal in Canada that is illegal in the U.S.?Well yeah, but all I want to use it for is instructions/tools that allow DRM to be circumvented (and information regarding the business practices of corporations) - this breaches the USA's DMCA and so USA datacentres have to respond to such complaints, as seen here (http://www.softlayer.com/dmca.html). This only "partially" breaches Australian law - it is formally prohibited, but the list of exemptions/exceptions is as long as my arm & it should be technically illegal to sell tools that allow DRM to be circumvented, but you can get ModChips from dozzens of locations, for instance here (http://www.ozmodchips.com/) and the preceding site is hosted within Australia. It doesn't breach Canadian law at all - which is why Slysoft (http://slysoft.com/) and DVDFab (http://dvdidle.com/) are hosted within a Canadian datacentre.

Music P2P is legal here as we are paying licensing fees on every cd-r we purchase.
Everything else is pretty much the same as with our southern neighboors.

Well it's just a few cents per cd spindle so I don't mind at all :)
There's also talks about doing the same thing with dvd-r, which could mean that then we'll be able to download dvd movie legally as well :)

We do *not* pay licencing fees on CD-R's, nor should we and this issue has been adressed many times by the various government departments, who concluded that you can't expect to get paid for what someone is doing illegally (that makes you a part of the crime), and you can't expect to tax people for using recordable media legally.

Your in Aus, Woj is in Canada - different laws, hope you look them up before any more hosting seeking.

The US pays CD-R licencing fees too, everyone knows that lol. Don't worry, it won't be hard to review canadian copyright law ;) it'll be a short read!
