Hello,

I'm running a proxy on a shared host with cPanel. What I want to do is make it work with a port, for example http://myproxy.com:83.

Firstly, is this posible to set up without needing WHM access or anything like that? If not, is it done within WHM or Apache itself?

And lastly, if somebody knows how, would it be possible for them to host a domain with this pot forward set up for me. I will be able to place ads.

Thanks very much; any help is appreciated.

Dan

P.S. Not entirely sure where this should go. please move it to an appropriate place if wrong. Thanks

In order for a port to be opened to the public the system administrator would need to open that port within their firewall. This isnt a WHM issue and as far as i know i dont think theres any way around this....hope this helps some :)

Is it likely that any free host here will allow me to do this?

Tell your host what you require, they will have to open the port first of all - or close your account one or the other.

Unlikely, and ask a mod to move this to either discussions or requests.

It's not as simple as opening the port, you would actually need an http daemon running on that port to serve your requests, it's highly unlikely that a paid host would do that nevermind a free one ...
