Today is a black day for CancerHost.com, for the first time in our history we have been hacked. Right now Josh, Adam(server provider), Cameron and I are trying our best to bring our server back online. Some how the hacker got into our server, changed the root password, but then we caught it and changed the password, and then blocked his ip. Next thing you know our server goes down, access is blocked and we can't reboot the server.

So our clients please hang tight as we try as hard as we can to get this server up and running and attempt to catch this hacker.

If you have any questions please address them here, once again we are sorry for this incident.

As for our donors if you wish for a refund, one will be provided or you can stay with us and we will add free months on to your account.

If anyone has anything urgent to ask please IM me:
AIM: CHdan07
YIM: CHdand07
MSN: bigdanny7o[at]hotmail.com

Sincerely,
Dan

Update: We are back up and running temporarily on another server while we try to get our old one back up and running, temporary hosting provided by ServerFrog.com

We are currently working on the problem. A server format was required. We plan to be up and running again within a 7 hour time period.

As of this moment, CancerHost is still somewhat down. SSH is still down and WHM is inaccessible because of the port being closed. Our main server provider also seems to be having issues with their server. It may or may not be connected. But, because of this, we cannot access our vps cp, hyperVM. The server administrator is also unreachable as I am typing this.

Let it be known that CancerHost will re-open no matter what, we are not giving up.

The port is currently not closed, We had a ping of death attack which rendered the server in-operable. We are working on this.

I hope everything will be fine for you soon; it's really frustrating when such incidents happen.

We weren't using the default port, It was something like 2285.

Haha, "some what low" is a nice way of putting it, I guess. I would love it if we could switch over to a dedicated, but I am not quite so sure yet.

Yeah, it happened, and we got it back up, more secure, in only a few days!

Clients are returning however we lost many free users.

Isn't it strange 'free' clients tend to desert quickest :fangel:

CH if you don't have your own server, ask questions of the provider to get details on how secure you can be.

And paid users will to, since they'll jump from host to host whenever there is some special going on just to save a dollar or two. The ones that stick with you, those are the ones that will have successful websites just because they realize that jumping from host to host is not exactly the most stable way of doing business. But the main issue is laziness, which is all too common in humans these days.
