He's a total beginner to webpage designing (I think he needs it for some project in Health class). I recommended that he use Frontpage (even though I have never ever used Frontpage in my life). So, he needs a free host with:

a) at least 5 MB
b) Frontpage Extensions
c) He doesn't mind ads, but try to keep it at a bare minimum

Since I have never tried uploading a Frontpage page onto a server, could someone tell me exactly how one goes about uploading Frontpage pages onto the server? I know it sounds ridiculous, but I'm an old-school person; I use Notepad only. :)

The server has to have frontpage extentions installed. Which is a real resource waste..

Than the person has to go to frontpage, and go to upload.. and enter ftp info.. And it will export/upload all the files needed..

Basicly it does for you what you can do through ftp, but since most begenirs are not sure about ftp..

I still recommend learning how to use ftp, and getting rid of frontpage. Even using frontpage is not the best thing in the world.. It will contribute to you forgetting real html syntexes, etc..

Why don't he just use Dreamweaver. It's much more easy to use and you can do much more things with it

Most people aren't familier with it and don't know about it.. While Microsoft.. due its monopoly, included frontpage express, and frontpage, with every version of there OS, and Office products (respectivly).

I personally prefer notepad.. never crashed yet..

Um...why doesnt he just click "save as HTML"in frontpage and use one with browser upload, or you could teach him basic FTP...

To upload a frontpage you need to have the fp extensions which are a real resource wase.

do geocities or angelfire have frontpage extensions?
they are simple, but if it's just for a school project that should be enough, and reliable.

Maybe he should use one of those online web-building tools like the one that used to be on Geocities...

If he doesn't want his page to be too complicated then why doesn't he learn basic html. Its not too hard to learn and he'll benefit from it too. I learnt nothing from dreamweaver or frontpage.

I hate Frontpage. I would tell him to learn HTML (in fact, I even considered it) if he was able to make a decent looking site. Since Frontpage is like the only program he has (Microsoft monopoly), even though it sucks, I just told him to try it.

And I already know proper HTML syntax. In fact, all my sites are coded in Notepad (and then saving to the desktop and previewing it). But since I doubt 95% of my classmates know even what HTML is, I think I should probably suggest something easier.

And roly...It's not ME who needs a Frontpage host, or I would probably go for paid hosting as well. My classmate cannot afford (nor does he want) a hosting package for a school assignment.

And I don't understand why Microsoft has to make things so difficult with Frontpage...They might as well have told the users to go download a free FTP program. I mean, it even sounds easier than what amelen is describing.

I can understand why your friend does not want to learn html... A lot of people (including me) just don't put computer/internet as a such high priority in life. Sure, it is a great skill to learn , but only if you have time or you are going to go into the computer related industry.

I suspect the majority of population just want to have a webpage on the internet where they can spend 15 min/day updating after work.

I don't understand...It isn't hard at all to learn HTML. Though I can see how frustrating and time-consuming it is to get the hidden tables working correctly to organize the content, the hard part only takes a few days to settle out. After that, you can spend your "15 minutes after work" on your website.
