Is it just me?
Internet Explorer often crashes when I choose a new forum.
"the program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". It happens about 1/3 the time since January.

If this has been happening since January, I would say it is only you. Nobody else has been having these problems that I have heard of.

I will move this to general discussions and maybe some tech heads can give some possible solutions. I have one, switch to Netscape! :p

I had Netscape before, and everything it did was a illegal operation... it corrupted things so badly I had to reinstall windows.

clear your cache, if doesn';t work, maybe you need to reinstall windows. it happened to me once, when yahoo will hang when I load their website. Maybe you should ask Todd or Peo or the company that made your computer if any.

The next time that happens, click on the details button and get the name of the exact file that crashed. I've seen similar problems before, commonly because of anti-virus software, browser caching etc. It will be easier to diagnose if we know the name of the file that crashed.

A browser can't support php. A server can. The server prepares the html and sends it to the browser. Otherwise its a security risk and people could view the source.

Use Opera :devious2:

meow
March 22nd, 2002, 20:01
But Akalon, Opera doesn't even need a site to crash. :D

I use 6.01 but don't like opera because of the ads.

I don't mind a browser that crashes every so often as long as it creates the pages decently. Unlike Mozilla which = Nutscape

To be honest I haven't been that affected by neither craches nor memory leaks as others. Dunno, but it could be because I use win95, Da Supa OS. :classic2:

The problem is not with Mozilla, it's with people being lazy and not writing proper code.

Windows 95 sucks. Also maybe you use the perfect browser I suppose? Whats it called?

So why use it? I already knew that netscape was built from mozilla.

Just because some people are to lazy to write proper code I'm not going to use some stupid browser just to view their page.

Thats a matter of opinion. I like ie because it creates the pages better (as mentioned above).

My version of opera does. It looks just like ie with ads and a couple of extra features. I haven't used it long enough to see it crash. I think ie is better though.

Visit my site in opera. Or try netscape version 4 or an old version of mozilla. You'll see that the pages look weird. In ie they actually get displayed correctly. There are also lots of javascripts that don't function in netscape/mozilla.

You may read the thread before you start to argue. You will then discover that we are talking about Opera and I originally said it's crash prone. I added that this haven't affected me as much as most others.

Phrozen is right. Moz is the browser that supports most of the standards both when it comes to CSS and the DOM.

If you had all these browsers installed all along why did you need ask us how your site looked in them? If you installed them recently you can't really know how they work, can you?

I have all 4 browsers installed. I know what my site looks like in all of them. I asked bruce what they looked like in each browser to proove my point.

I just checked your site in netscape 4. A few major differences to ie.

As a web designer, you are meant to make your site work well in all browsers and resolutions so that all visitors can see it correctly. You can't just say it's the browsers fault, because someone is going to look at it in that browser and say "This site sucks".

Netscape 4 is old and outdated. I never claimed my site was compatible with it. I am referring to recent browsers here such as Moz/Netscape 6+.

Then why do we have to tell you in your innumerous "review my site" threads? And why do you act surprised when told that your site for instance doesn't show up in Netscape if you already knew? You mean you are just LAZY?

Yeah but not all netscape users use the latest version.

meow

Dude, your site is plain vanilla HTML and a couple of lines of faulty CSS. there's nothing there that Netscape4 can't handle.

How stable is the newest Mozilla? I was about to download it from download.com when the description actually warns of crashes (huge turnoff)
