Who will win this next epic battle starting sometime next year!?

Google will win. Google is no longer that company operated out of the dorms of Stanford. They are now a multi-billion publicly traded company.

Not to mention that because of Google, we have a new saying "Google it". Nobody ever said "Yahoo it", they said "Search on the Internet". Now everyone says "bro! George Bush does have a twin, just Google it!"

You never know, they're spending a year before they show anything to the public, and I think they started last year. Google has the upperhand because of how well known it is, and it's a multi billion dollar corporation.

It'd be funny if Google ends up buying it

I think Google will win too

What did you aim to gain from putting your link in there as plain text?

Google will definitely win, no doubt about it.

I didn't even read this thread at first, but Skrenta is almost an enigma - I think he might give Google at least some serious competition. I used to edit at the ODP/DMOZ, the human-edited web directory that Skrenta helped start (and AOL killed - but that's another story). That community was infused with an extremely ambitious, can-do attitude and optimism that I think had its source in Skrenta. I have no doubt he'll be able to motivate people to help build Blekko. Whether it will actually be used by the general public is another story - once Google dropped the ODP (which Google rebranded the Google Directory), it practically disappeared from the internet. Google definitely has the power to kill projects. We'll just have to see. I'd like to think Skrenta wouldn't sell Blekko to Google.

I don't like it when other companies try to compete with Google. Google Adsense pretty much pays for my internet and phone. In other words if there was no Google, I wouldn't have a phone and internet access.

Competition produces better product, you want competition.

Google isn't just a name everyone knows, it really is a great search engine and would be hard to compete with.

I'm gonna trust you on this one. You seem to know what you're talking about.

I doubt they would stand a chance.

Google has way more resources than them, and no matter what the article says, I believe that Google would not view them as much competition. That's not to say Google will underestimate them; however, I seriously doubt they will pose any significant threat to Google.

Just my 2 cents.

Competition is such a strong word :p

It's more like...Google's annoying little cousin that kept hanging around for a summer before it finally got sent back home to Indiana.
