Gallery2 is extremely customisable, so I'd say try it 1st :-)

Im looking for a gallery script too. I tried Coppermine a while back but I dont like it much, its complex and difficult to customize. Im uploading gallery2 now and have been for about half an hour, its huge
Is 4images any good?
