Ok here goes,

I have a few servers hosted currently with softlayer and i couldn't be more pleased, i have had zero downtime appart from my side reboots as yet.

Whenever i open a ticket it has been answered within 1 hour of it being opened and the staff are a pleasure to deal with they really are a credit to SL.

Secondly, When i go to the live chat to discuss upgrades they are always open to bargaining and will quote you cheaper than said on the website for eg i got 2gb ram added for $35 instead of $50 i think it was which really pleased me.

Big credits to the following who if you are an sl customer you will hopefully agree - Mary(Sales), Patrick(Sales),Doug(Tech),Michael(Sales and accounting) they are a few names off the top of my head who i really cant thank enough.

Last of all i wish to thank the accounting team who were very understanding when i was paid a day later than my billing date and "waived" the fee for me, basicly i think if you let them know in advance they are ok with it rather than just not telling them which is more of a hastle for sl to chase you up.

Softlayer may not be the cheapest provider, but as they say you get what you pay for and you certainly do here.

Hope this helps for anyone interested in getting a unmanaged dedicated.

Regards,

Jordan Mclay

They do bump up the specs of the servers you order time to time which is nice.

Yep, I remember ordering a Pentium D 3 GHz there and I ended up getting a Xeon X3220. :classic2:

I tell you x10 has 5 servers with SoftLayer, there great to work with, no downtime, fast support. I also love the IPMI feature, most dedicated hosts don't have that as far as I've seen:).

Yes, but it doesn't work to well with servers with 3 drives:confused4. You can still contact them and they do it for free (or there great $3 support tickets.)

Another cool fact is there local update server for cPanel, RedHat, etc. They have them in-DC, and a 10 Gig connection from there Dallas to Seattle DC if you are looking for that.

Also free VPN access to your server and free internal networking.

Thats kinda of a default and ordinary stuff on the newer Dell's

Its something you must have, atleast in the months to come from now on.

Ya it looks like they use Supermicro (http://supermicro.com/) boards which it is built into them. I do have to say it's some pretty cool stuff:-).
