Hello,

I apreciate that it hasn't been a year since my last change it was about 8 months ago but as i have now given webhost-warehouse over to my partner and im now working with Geekrack Part-Time while im at uni.

But as i wont be advertising for webhost-warehouse and itl look silly, Could i have my name changed to Jordan Mclay as its not affiliated with any host and wouldn't merit another namechange again on my behalf :)

I know, but i would like it changed away from hosting or silly one liners to just my name.

Sorry for the troubles :)

Give the guy a name change ffs, don't tell me we have a rule that you can only change your username once a year, that's just stupid. I've seen some forums take rules to the max but this is crazy :p.

+rep for Craig.

Sorry Jan/Peo/Todd but I have to agree! It is a little stupid for a rule like this to happen, and should be taken down to say, 6months? :)

I appreciate the rule, But im sure i saw you post somewhere Jan that if you were no longer affiliated with the host in your name you could be changed.

Jan, just let him change his name :p

Webhost-Warehouse is wayy too long for starters.

And for once, I agree with Craig.

Yes - but you have to treat all members the same. GR-Andy didn't get a change.

Well I think he should get one :p

maybe do what we used to do at YOF, and make the user pay for a name change with rep points. if they dont have enough rep, to bad for them. :P

Thats actually not a bad idea, you could probably automate it too, to avoid hassling the moderators.

Jan: everyones practicing for when you guys start recruiting;)

that is how we had it on YOF, so yeah, that would be nice.

Making it a 'donation' is a bad idea as only those with enough could do it, so unfair system.
It's a bind but it's the rules, they apply to everyone and at least it means everyone is on a level playingfield for new and old on the forums.
A good point was made in not changing your user to an 'affiliated' one as you could be out on your "small donkey" the next day. Unless you own it but even then it could backfire on you!

Well yeah, I owned ooblez, but decided to sell, I'll just stick with my name:)

but there is an issue. misrepresenting a company is a serious issue. If I was geek rack I would have put in an official request by now. Anything he says can be taken as a companies official line.

Actually a very good point John, best no usernames, outside the owners, refering to companies (hosts), just look at recent events.

yeah, Im beginning to wish i chose my name as my username to start with.

Jan - while agree a rule is absolute, you have definitely posted somewhere before (ill need a few minutes grace) that an irregular username change would be permitted if a member needed it for reasons of mis-representation and or misbranding. So if jordan has lost his affiliation with webhost warehouse, should he not be allowed the change ? :)

@ AMC, Thats what i posted above im sure i seen a post like that too.

Im not going to moan over it afterall its over a name, rather keep on the good side of jan and co.

Cheers,

Jordan

I'd change mine to my name Craig, no probs - but I've been using this for about 20 years.

I'd forget what to logon too :)

JohnN

maybe change the register so it works out the username from the surname and firstname?

I actually agree with the fact that there should be some kind of amendment to the rules which allows for situations like this. I am opening a thread regarding this in the admin/mod forum to discuss and I am sure one of us will let you know what we find out when.

[A personal note for the record, I remain staunchly opposed to name changes period. I think they are confusing and a pain...but in a case where a host name and representation is involved, I do see the need]

Mind you, Webhost-Warehouse is a pretty general name. I didn't even know it was a company until I saw advertising for it... I don't think anyone even pays attention to names on this forum... I mean my name is NetXHosting and my company is called ConnectHost, But people don't really care ;)

In Andy's case, geekrack don't own a trademark on GR, it is just two letters. I have no problem changing a name for the first time, but when it wants changing every few months, or in Andy's case every few weeks, it becomes confusing to everyone. I'll start a poll shortly that you can all vote on.

Thinks about doing it .. Just kidding. I'm not unethical like that however I do see a problem with that. My new job with Crissic is working out. P.S Its been suggested on this thread and my thread. I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks like 3$-5$
