I'm currently looking at purchasing another web host for a considerable amount of money. I want to do everything I can to ensure that this is not a fraud and that I will actually get the clients that I am purchasing.

I have asked for the following:
1) screen shot of paypal with payments of clients [provided]
2) screen shot of WHMCS with client list and revenue graphs [provided]
3) copy of valid photo ID [agreed to be provided prior to deal closing]
4) screen shot of list of account in WHM [provided]

What else can I do to ensure that this transaction goes smoothly and I am protected? I am thinking of using my credit card to pay for it...or possibilly cheque. I have made it clear that I refuse to pay with any method that does not allow for me to cancle the payment or make a charge back should anything goes wrong.

This is kind of urgent so please let me know what your suggestions are!

Thanks,

Tang

I think if everything you have requested looks legit, and the person you are buying from seems legit in him/her self, you have more than enough already :)

Possibly check into using a service such as escrow.com

I have personally never taken over a company but reading through many threads on WHT about doing so many people suggest using something such as escrow.com

I'm thinking of useing www.escrow.com; it might be worth it.

The thing is, I would feel much better if I know the person for a longer period of time. However in this case, I do not. I have exchanged emails with this person for about a day now. He is looking for a quick close on the deal and I also see no point in prolonging the process any longer than it has to. He has been very co-operative with everything I have asked of him.

watch out of the fast ones... they always try to do things a little too quickly.

Get paperwork signed. And a contract drawn by your lawyer.

Paper trail of the sale is a MUST. You must also ask for photo ID of the seller, so you can use that against them (If a paper trail is kept) if the sale goes bad.

along with the photo ID, maybe some papers of their housing arrangements etc, so you know where they live is real, and their name is assigned to that.

I'd suggest a 'listed' phone number to check their actually there, and get them to call you with CLID enabled, check with the phone company, send a registered mail...

So many things, that can be faked and spoofed.

1) screen shot of paypal with payments of clients
2) screen shot of WHMCS with client list and revenue graphs
3) copy of valid photo ID
4) screen shot of list of account in WHM

All can be made for a purpose.

Hmm.. I think it would be ideal to:
1) Get 3 forms of official ID
2) Get the papers to the housing arrangements (compared with the ID's)
3) Get the phone number and give him a call to see if it is the right number

Then you two should sign something in case anything else goes wrong.
