View Full Version : Weather Site that Doesn't Suck

This may sound strange or what have you, but I check the weather religiously, and for the life of me, can't find a single weather website that doesn't completely suck gonads.
Even with adblock, Weather.com is horrible. The layout sucks, I can't find anything, etc.
Wunderground is typically my choice, but again, the layout is so....1995. Hard to navigate, pain in the --- overall.
SimpleWeather.com is great, BUT, doesn't have radar, just a quick overview of current conditions and the next few days. No hour by hour or anything.
Accuweather suffers from the same issues as Weather.com and Wunderground ->The layout is so crowded and pathetic.
In this day and age of Web 2.0, isn't there a DECENT weather website out there, not chock full of ads, a horrible overdone layout. I know there must be a site out there. If you know of one, please share.
[To aspiring webmasters; maybe this is your calling. Make a weather site that doesn't suck unless someone points out a nice, Web 2.0 one that I didn't know about.]
Thats my rant, and thanks for listening.

Seems like a decent project..would have to figure out where to get the data from..since there'd probably be issues with hijacking a weather feed one of those sites use unless it's open source..

I teach Middle School Science and we use many different weather websites during our unit on weather (7th grade). We have used countless sites and have yet to find one that doesn't suffer from some serious flaws. The biggest flaw of them all is their unreliability (yes weather is very hard to predict). As you said they also have problems with layout and ad overkill.
Anyways, I also tend to use wunderground most often, but it's radar is horrible (i use the weather.com radar).
I also use http://www.intellicast.com/ from time to time but it's becoming overloaded with ads as well, but I still find it better than the weather channel site.
If I find one that is great I'll post here. Plus I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if someone finds something decent out there.
*EDIT:
Forgot to mention one site that I like but don't use often because it doesn't work properly with firefox is http://www.wx.com/

Hmm.. Depending on where you live, I think most countries have their own government meteorological website.
PS. If you're from Canada, go here: http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/canada_e.html :D

Both links I posted have Celsius and Fahrenheit readings. On the intellicast site you have to click on the temperature (upper left) to toggle between the two scales.
I wouldn't be surprised if some US sites did not offer the Celsius scale seeing that many Americans are terrified of it or have no clue it even exists.

Or perhaps just because nobody in the country actually uses it for day to day measurements
I like Wunderground.com just fine. All of the information I need is above the fold most of the time, so I don't have to scroll. Lots of useless info too, but meh. As for navigation, I just always go to the direct page with my city, nothing to navigate anyway.

Its only USA and Jamaica that officially still use it.

Much like the Arctic, we have 6 months of rolling summer and 6 months of darkness.
Right now, we're in the dark. ~35C.

You try switching the measuring system of a country with 300 million people.

I don't actually know, but wasn't the largest country to actually make a switch from imperial to metric the UK? Current population of the UK according to wikipedia is around 60 mil. That's not even close to 300 million people switching all in one go.
