Just wondering, as a matter of interesting discussion, how many members here have the ECDL and how important the License is when it comes to gaining a career in IT?

In short Dan, Its ---- its a course for dummies mate.
How do i turn on a pc, how do you open a file, how do you change the name of a file. ect ect
All it is, a crash course for dummies, You would be better in a course digital media and computing. Covers all areas and lets you do it support.

I have ECDL and its basically (as far as I can figure out) a course to show that a secretary can use basic PC functions. I did it because I had the time, but for anything beyond that - dont bother ;)

I have no knowledge of this, but from reading the other people's post, I'm guessing it's just another decoration on your resumé. I'm sure if you have the time, it's good to have.

Cheers folks.
Was just interested in everyone's opinions of it because I WAS actually thinking of doing it. But now I won't because basically it will do nothing for me only tell other people that I can use a PC.
A former friend of mine did it or is doing it still and he was like "Oh I know all about computers because I am doing the ECDL and I was like, WTF? What ya wanna go and spend 500 fecking euro just for someone to show you what you already know? :lol:
Anyways, I am going for a Diploma in IT when I go to Australia in May. :)

It's not worth a monkeys chuff!
Unless your really thick and need to prove you know the back end of monitor from the front. Don't send the person for interview that your currently looking at.
{from an email I sent where an agency asked me if the person I was looking for to fill a position required the ECDL on their CV - they had put currently 'gaining' ECDL}

I voted Yes, because my boss needs one! im tired of him ringing me up in the evenings tell me his computer wont work.
And I believe if your on the dole in the u.k you can get it for free.

And it shows how easy it is if its given to people on the dole for free - Im not talking about people genuinly on the dole i mean people who are just too lazy to get out and work ect.
