A few days ago, I had an order for hosting, so I set it up and yesterday got this email:

Hello,
I am very upset to realize that my 10 year old daughter purchased a hosting plan without my consent with my Paypal account. I would like you to please cancel her oder and reimburse my bank.
*Name removed for privacy*

Now is that the worst excuse for a refund or what? :eek3::P

I would say so!

So its either "smart 10 year old" or "idiot parent allows child access to paypal account"

i have had that happen twice, its usually the son though, never known it be the daughter.

For a 10 year old to do that though, is surprising. Obviously the parents have passwords saved.

Lol, Should I refund it? It came with a free domain so I'm not sure what to do there :p

well, do you offer 30 day money back or something?
ask for the domain though. since she doesn't want the account in the first place.

If you can get the money back from the registrar, than sure. Otherwise either give it back and eat the domain or refund all but the domain

Stop watching your mum in the shower, and you wouldn't be nearly so delusional (just kidding of course:D)

I'd try get a refund for the domain from the registrar first. If they won't give a refund then I'd charge them for the domain and refund the rest.

Nope we don't, but I'll probably refund anyway ;)

DirectI won't give it back but it's only a .info so I'll sell it on DP or something

refund the costs of the hosting, minus the domain and explain to them that these are costs that you cannot get back. Any responsible parent will understand.

Yep, and I'll also advise them on how to put locks on password's in their browser ;)

Personally, Id tell them:

We are not responsible for the security of your PC, you are and quite frankly, i dont believe your story.
However im a nice guy, and ill give you the benifit of doubt.
I can refund your money for the hosting, but not for the domain as we had to purchase it ourselves.
In future, password protect your PC, dont share your account with your children.
I will not be so generous in future, and neither will alot of other hosts.

Nah, i think a 10yo could make up a better exuse then that, I wouldn't even let my 10yo child (if i had one) near my paypal account let alone buy anything without me knowing it

i think its a scam to just get the money back.

I hate to admit it, but I've actually used the excuse before, so it's incredibly possible.

Since most of you are probably wondering... I have an eBay account, and there was some sort of promotion where they wanted you to just bid on 1 item to enter. I bid on an item that I felt there would be extreme competition for, but when no one else was bidding, I contacted the seller and told them that my daughter had accidentally bid on the item because I had expressed intrest in it. I made up a huge story though, and apologized completely for the inconvenience. Either way, the nicest thing for him to do is to refund the costs of the hosting, minus the personal damages (domain).

Even if it is a lie, the only thing you're losing is time.... and maybe a couple megs of transfer.

Wow, that's pretty funny. When it comes to stuff like this, I've always given a refund because, to me, it's certainly not worth the hassle nor headache.

Idiot alert one way or the other. Either he/she has no control over what the daughter does, or he's telling a crazy porky. Be worth the refund to get rid of him :D
