View Full Version : FWS Connectivity

Hey FWS Team,

I've been experiencing a couple issues with connectivity the last 3 or 4 days now. For some reason pages and images will half load and the rest will use the alt tags instead of actually loading the images. Everytime it is a different image though.

I have also had the 403 forbidden error come up more often. Sometimes you get the FWS custom 403 page for no apparant reason and then upon refreshing the page will load.

I am not sure if anyone else is having any of these issues, I know someone else mentioned the 403 thing before. The half loading pages is only on FWS and no other websites. The issue is consistant across browsers, operating systems, machines, and networks. I have the same problem no matter what machine I am on or if I am at home or work.

Just giving you a heads up :cool2:

I seem to be doing okay here... maybe check with your ISP or run a traceroute?

I've had rare times where a page would load as a blank white page

I get the Download this PHP File around once a week, only on this site. But not had any problems with Images or 404's

I've been getting random 404s (like when I click on general discussions).

I've been getting random 404s (like when I click on general discussions).

Same here... the images are getting more and more sparse around these parts though ;) Everytime I load a page less and less images seem to load.

The editor box right now is using all alt tags for images and not the images themselves.

Hmmm... I've tried from a couple ISPs and from a Windows dedi I have in Atlanta. All have missing images and get random 404's

Not sure what the problem is because I am not showing any packet loss if I ping freewebspace.net or anything. Tracerts also look fine

EDIT:

Talk about a strange route... I just looked at the Tracert a bit closer and it is going from me to Miami (300 miles south) and then all the way to Equinix in Virginia. From VA to Portland, Oregon. Then finally it takes a savvis route from Portland to Dallas into The Planet.

Tried using a proxy port on your browser?

Tried using a proxy port on your browser?

Tried that :(

But like I said, I have tried using my home computer, laptop, and my computer at work. All of which are doing the same thing...

I've even used remote desktop on one of my windows servers in Atlanta at GNAX and had the same result.

Yes! See mod team, I'm not crazy.

I have discussed this in lengths in the admin/mod forum because this happens on 30% of the links I click on. I have tons of screenshots showing the same thing in that forum.

It may sound bad that I am happy that you are having a problem, but I had pretty much been the only one until now. See Jan! I told you I wasn't nuts.

Now, I am curious as to why it is doing this...

What ISP and Part of the world are you guys in?

Home ISP: Comcast
Work ISP: Bellsouth DSL

Locality: Florida, USA

But I've also tested this over remote desktop off a Windows Server in Atlanta, GA. The server itself is in AtlantaNAP (GNAX)

I am not noticing any packet loss or high latency or anything when pinging/tracerting freewebspace.net

New or old theme?
Any ad blocking software installed?

New theme... No ad blocking at all.

ISP: Pipex
Location: England

Theme: Old (Forced new on some pages)
Ad-Blocking: No

Packet Loss: No
Ping Time: Minimum = 122ms, Maximum = 124ms, Average = 122ms

SC-Daniel
April 16th, 2008, 17:16
Ping statistics for 75.125.46.140:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 68ms, Maximum = 69ms, Average = 68ms

Just did another ping test to show that I have no packet loss.

The old theme is fine with the broken image problem, but I just switched to the new one and I'm missing quite a few images here....

Oh and if it's relevant:
ISP: Ihug (Internet home user's group)
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
Theme: Old
Ad-Blocking: Nope

[DWH]Yuxuan

I got the problem as well.
ISP: Bell Sympatico
Location: Ottawa, Canada
Theme: New
Ad-blocking: No

People seem to get this problem all around the world, so I don't think it's an ISP issue, or a localized problem.

i've had this a few times, but it's always the smallest images.
like the rep/msn icon/report button. but before the only thing that never loaded was the header, there was a bit gap where there isn't usually anything. the logo/advertise buttons etc loaded fine.

Matt8

Home: Kansas, Cox Communications
Work: No idea what ISP, not there to check.

No ad-blocking sw at Work, have some at home, but even when it is on, it does nothing to fix or worsen the problem.

Happens with IE7, IE6 and Firefox and any computer I try.

Well... Matt I will tell you that I too seem to not get email notifications for all of the threads that I am subscribed too ;)

Anyway, hopefully Peo can get this one fixed. It almost seems like an Apache problem since it is throwing random 403's, 404's, and blank pages.

Well.. right now the forum is being a complete pain in the ---.

However it seems to be due to this server that keeps timing out :S

I had to give up on email notifications at this site for two reasons: They were instable, and once I became a mod, I had my nose in too many threads. I just couldn't keep up with the sheer amount of email notifications, it was insane.

I had an error alot where the users avatar was blank and just said - eg "Jans Avatar" doesnt seem to be happening now.

Also what happens is i get random 404 messages but once i refresh the page all is ok.

It's not as bad right now... The only issues I am having is extreme slowness and the rep bar images.

I can't use the new theme because it still has so many missing pictures. The old theme seems to be fine, for now

EDIT:

Well now it seems every other link I click on I am getting 403 Forbidden Errors

Yep, tried that...

But on a good note, this is only occurring on my laptop at the moment and I haven't cleared the cache on it yet, so hopefully that will solve that problem ;)

SC-Daniel
April 19th, 2008, 12:08
403 Forbidden Errors are much more frequent all of the sudden. Every other link i click on it is kicking me to the 403 error. A simple refresh and ctrl f5 refresh doesn't work. If you hit the back button it still gives the error. The only way I could get it to go away is to close my browser and reopen it.

Hmmm this is VERY strange!

It's almost like Apache is hitting it's max concurrent connections or something

I am still getting the 403 errors quite a bit... Now the image issue is only showing up on my laptop :(

I've been to tied up with experimenting with my new Exchange server to try and see if reinstalling Firefox on my laptop works.

Needless to say, it's kind of hard to miss when you get a response now. My phone, laptop, desktop, and mac all chirp simultaneously when I get an email ;)

I feel you there. My phone (pda) is beeping all times of the night because people in my company apparently don't sleep. It never ceases to amaze me who is up sending work emails at 5AM on a Sunday.

Anyway, the image problem exists for me, but not near as widespread and often as the 403 issue. i've had 3 403's in the last 10 min of being here.

Haha, yes I often wonder why I receive email at 3AM from colleagues...

My new Exchange is completely awesome though, I keep sending emails to myself so I can hear all of them get it at the same exact second. When I was on IMAP, my phone would only send/receive every 15 minutes, not the case with Exchange ;)

Yes, same here... 403 errors are the biggest pain. You can refresh 5 or 6 times and it still will not take you to the link you clicked on. I found that I have to close the tab and reopen it sometimes.

The image problem isn't nearly as bad anymore, but it is still apparent.

I've noticed a trend though with the images. Its like they are in "Sets" and when one "set" doesn't show the others do.
