Portland is the name of a host. You can visit them here (http://www.portland.co.uk).

They allow users to offer their own free hosting service. So if I had besthostever.com, I could sign-up for Portland, and therefore offer my users free hosting with the URL username.besthostever.com. A service that allows webmasters to offer their own "free hosting" is known as a co-brand. If you are the webmaster using a co-branded service, you are a "reseller." All Portland accounts have 15 MB, PHP, CGI, SSI, MySQL, NO ADS, and even domain hosting (if the user wants it). That sounds pretty good, doesn't it?

Well, until you realize that Portland only offers each user 100 MB of transfer per month (most sites use up that much transfer per week). Also, their security is pathetic. They are constantly hacked, and the co-brands hack each other as well! That's not to mention that Portland is run on really SLOOOW servers. Stay away from Portland co-brands!

Look at what they're offering. If they're offering exactly 15 MB of no-ad hosting with CGI, PHP, and MySQL, then it's almost definitely a Portland co-brand. For a list of complete features, look at what Dark Earthbound has posted and add the terms "100 MB transfer" to the list. That sums up all of Portland's features. Also, Portland sites have an IP address of 212.x.x.x, in general. Here's another Portland co-brand: http://www.f2g.net/
