I am currently looking for a few programs. I am looking for a file manager that can be accessed from the internet on one of my domain names. Basically one of my employees will type in a web address, then have to enter their user id and password, and then the program will show them different folders. Inside each folder, will be different files that they will have access to. Does anyone know of anything like this? I would also like the program to allow me to give certain privileges to certain groups. Like for instance, I will be able to access all files, but each employee can only access certain ones.
Another thing I own a company called VIP Management Group, LLC. which I would like to focus on people of all kinds looking to sell houses of all kinds, office buildings, renting them out, etc.
Another thing that I would like VIP to do is to be a place for employers to come and landords to come to get Management help for their business.
I would not offer the management service myself, but it would offered through 3rd party companies on my site.
If anyone knows of any scripts like this, please let me know.

Does it have to be a program to do the file management, or can you just use windows file sharing? of Microsoft FTP?
To tie it all together, it just seems like you need a website with member access for your employees and customers, like SharePoint.

I will look into what you suggested but just to clarify.
The ftp (file) program will be used by all employees who work for my main company which is TMG (the one in my signature).
The other thing I was talking about, would be used by employees and clients of VIP.

Also one more thing, I would like to use my own web addresses and not sub addresses

I see what you mean. I personally would use SharePoint for the whole task to make it easy, but setting up and managing it would be full time. The FTP solution wouldn't be pretty, but it would do the task you ask for.

may also be able to solve your problem, I haven't used it but I may in the future.

this may give the the ability to share files with your colleagues.
you may also want to have a look into CRM software like SugarCRM or vtiger (free).

For a start George looking into free services for business services is a bad idea, what your describing is nothing to complex (Sharepoint would be overkill and only do part of the job - or cost loads on 'consultants' fees :wink2:) and acheivable easily, but it will cost a small amount to get the reliability and resilience you would need.
I'd suggest a VPS (to start with) from a good reliable source and a framework (rather than a CMS or CRM) and of course a fair bit of effort to get it the way you want it :)

Good points Decker - In my case SharePoint would be the solution because I already have the software and I've maintained it for an organization so I wouldn't need consultants. Reading back, my suggestions might not be as easy for the non-technically savvy as they are for me.

Based on the fact it's in free I would just guess a 'small' amount of cash may be available if forced out of Georges hands :P but not enough to make it worth putting a bid together for a project :wink2:
