Laptop battery

As you can tell, i am here today to ask about laptop battery's, ok so i have an acer aspire 300 series, now at the moment the battery i have only will last for 5 - 10 mins max before it dies meaning i have to use a power pack none stop.

Now i am wanting to move around with my laptop and have at least 3 hours of charge in it, what do you suggest i do? go out and buy a new one? if i do what is the bets way to manage it? i.e. how long should it be on a power pack etc.

Personally, I take out the battery whenever I'm at home and using external power source... only when I'm going out, then I'll take the battery with me :P

You need a new one, don't know which type that model uses but either lithium or nickle metal hydride are both are goosed when it gets that bad.

General for all rechargables is let them cycle, discharge them fully and fully recharge them regularly. Saves the battery life if used properly, even ni-cad packs can be saved doing this.

Taking the battery pack out can actually be bad at times if you have a dirty mains supply as the pack acts as an extra smoothing and spike protection stage.

So leave it in but let it run down occassionally :)

Oh did I mention your battery is done - get a new one (and 3 hours is looking on the bright side :wink2:)

My VAIO battery is crap. Has been since i got it. It says on the box about 6-8 hours life, i get barely 2 hours. I've done that discharge it completely, then full charge, but still the same. I'm not buying a new one, they are a rip-off. Personally, since it's been crap since i got it, they should have gave me a new one. Same thing about my HDD, says it's an 80GB, it's barely 60GB.

About the charging question, it depends on the battery. It should say on the manual thing the average times it lasts/takes to charge. Mine takes about 1.30hours, probably not even that.

Batteries are a bit fickle :)

6-8 on a VAIO is quoted at max power saving - it has no chance 2 is a good average :)

Your HDD will have the recovery partition on it too, so it is 80 but you only have 60 left (small print again).
