View Full Version : Offer Threads -- Sticky Ads

Hey FWS Team,

I was looking around in the Paid Offers forum and noticed something that really caught my eye.

You have about 4 or so "don't do this" sticky threads at the top of the forum section. I personally did not even see Dan's sticky for DeiseHost until I started paying more attention. Most people just scroll on down past the sticky threads because most of the time, they are just the regulations of that forum section.

If I were to advertise by purchasing a sticky, I don't think I would to happy with that as it draws away from the ad, and honestly, the ad would hardly be looked at because of the large conglomerate of a mess at the beginning of the offers forums.

My suggestion is to possibly unsticky those threads and put them as announcements like on WHT offer forums ;)

Example: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=104 at the very top of the page the only sticky threads are paid advertisements, the WHT 'sticky' threads are in an announcement block.

Just my two cents ;)

That's a good suggestion. We'll do that unless there is any objections.

I agree with Daniel, Peo. I too am concerned that my ad is being unrecognised because of the other sticky threads. Maybe announcements and have the titles in bold or a different color?

Agreed here too. Dan, the announcements would be above the thread list :D

Wherever they are, they still won't be read :p

Agreed. I personally never looked there for offers :)

It should be like WHT does it. Very clear.

If it stays the same way, (I've not seen anyone do this by the way) but there could be a way to change the background color of sticky ads under a different prefix than "Sticky:" (I don't know how it's done in vB though)

Name Pro allows you to change the BG color of your ad for a few bucks when advertizing.

Why not make the ad stickies a different background color than the notice stickies? ;)

Good ideas, I'm trying it out now.

Anyone know how to display more than 1 announcement per forum section?

If memory serves me right, you should just be able to do that right off, no? I used to run a vB forum, but it's been a few months.

...Although you probably wouldn't be asking how to do it if it were that easy so...

Isn't there a mod where you can make your own prefix and style it? (it would be easier to just have an "Advertise" one) Personally, the background should be taken off the polls too.

Hmm it looks good, but still does not solve the problem of Advertisement stickies being disguised by the regulation sticky :S

There will only be sticky ads and announcements, no other stickys.

Much better :) My computer was partially caching it or something because now it is showing up as sticky ads, but announcements for the rules

Great work Peo... Looks much better
