it is possible to emulate that old MACOS9 or earlier behaviour with WinXP/2000 (offtopic - by the way, WinXP stops selling on June 30th, Windows Seven is released (or so Wikipedia says) H2 next year)

I made this guide (http://velvetsea42.deviantart.com/art/Windows-Blank-Folder-87362323) on how to do it, :S but I thought I'd post it here.

Okay, allow me to explain. Back in the old MAC OS 9 and earlier days, some packages of programs came with strange blank icons rather than actual icons. This is a mere recreation for windows users (Windows 2000 and above.)

1. Download this file (http://www.deviantart.com/download/87362323/Windows_Blank_Folder_by_VelvetSea42.ico) (it's an ICO File.)

2. Place the ICO over in My Documents, windows folder or root of your C:\ it doesn't matter as long as it is on the machine and not a removable device.

3. Make a folder in the place you wish to create the blank object.

4. Right-Click the folder, go to properties. Then go to the customize tab (If it isn't there, you didn't create a folder, or have too early of a Windows version.)

5. On the Customize tab, click the "Change Icon..." button way at the bottom, then on the new dialog, click the browse button in the upper right; then navigate to where you saved your blank.ico, choose it, and presto!

Note - If the icon you download turns out to be all white... do the following steps to recreate a blank ICO...

1. Go into Paint.NET, GIMP or whatever and create a 16 x 16 transparent background image.

2. Save the image as a 24-bit PNG (so it has transparency.)

3. Go over to [link] (http://converticon.com/) and convert the PNG to ICO, then download it.

4. Continue at step two from earlier (not the step two here.)
