See picture. I finally got an error log out of imgburn as to why my DVD-RAM Drive reads slow, but burns ultra fast.

Due to this, Adobe Flash CS3 cannot install from the DVD I have, says the Setup.exe doesn't exist in the Adobe CS3 folder. It can read other files fine though (IE: Adobe 8.0 Reader setup exe, etc.)
I cannot update my DVD-Drive's firmware, the firmware upgrade tool gives an error saying it could not complete the update (but it could start it) every time I try to update it. I cannot boot into safe mode for some reason either (my keyboard won't let me.)
I contacted LITE-ON today early about the firmware update issue (8+ hours ago) with no response yet, I'm waiting on them since the FAQ they have can't describe the error I'm getting with it.

Download an ISO of the update and use Deamon Tools?
There is no image too.

Daemon Tools won't help with this. This is a hardware issue, I just google searched it, and found out it's a common problem with the IDE Cable. I'll have to shut off my computer and check it out.
Edit: I tried messing around with the cables, even the SATA HDD cables, and nothing helped. So either my cable needs replacing (Which I doubt, since the CD-R Drive I have works perfectly fine when verifying the CD I just burnt, and it's at the END of the IDE Cable) or I need to replace my DVD-RAM Drive.

Have you requested support from Lite-on's site?
**Not just about the firmware. Try to troubleshoot any other things that might be the problem.

Daemon Tools will help you in emulating a virtual DVD drive while you have a non-functioning physical one.

Uh-huh, and the lite version doesn't come with IDE Emulation. =/

LITEON e-mail support is automated unfortunately based on keywords within the e-mail. I'll take it to a local PC place and have it checked out eventually. I burned the trial of Flash CS3 to a CD instead, because the CD-ROM works. DVD/CD Burning works in the LITEON Drive, I just can't "Verify" due to this.

Use the Pro version. Don't they offer trials for Pro?

Hm, odd. I know a few people who have Lite-ons with no problems. I'll check around to see if I can find a solution for you.

Google won't be a good idea. Most solutions deal with the cable, which I've already checked out. Oh, and congrats on 1000 posts.

Some drives just dont like some disks, it could be as simple as that.
Its mainly certian CD-Rs and DVD-Rs that drives have problems with, but it also happens with pressed disks too. In the past, ive had to burn a CD to another disk to get it to run in my main PC, so perhaps get a friend to burn off a copy of your disk and try that.
Otherwise, screw messing with it, stop being a tightass and go spend $30 on a new1. :P
EDIT: The DVD Ram in the PC is Lite-On. Had no problems sofar :D

My sister kinda had the same problem.... Hers was an external drive, but it's exactly the same as the internal.
I ended up taking the drive and throwing it out, and using the enclosure for my new external 250gb drive.

Make that 60+ USD for around these parts. This one alone cost me about 69 USD.

With IDE cables it is possible for one of the outlet thingies to be problematic, while the other works and the problematic one does not necessarily need to be the end one. I discovered this by doing some extensive testing with a DVD drive and a hard drive a couple nights ago.

I had Milwaukee PC check it out. First thing they said:
I switched the DVD-RAM Drive to Primary/Slave instead of Cable Select, which is what Gateway usually defaults to. However, I bought this LITE-ON and had them install it many months ago =/
I swapped out the IDE Cable, and it seems to work fine now.
Glad he didn't charge for the new IDE Cable, since this and getting my lappy fixed cost me a whopping 170 USD in total (I'm sure with Geek Squad it would have been more.) The lappy needed an 80 GB HDD Mobile SATA put in, which alone cost 80 USD.

I have an old pc from 9 years ago and we stopped using it when it was 5 years old. A couple of months ago, we needed it to act as a server in our attic for broadband around out home. It's really power efficient... same as running 1 light bulb.
Anyway, after formatting and reinstalling windows xp both the DVD drive and CD writer were broken. Maybe time had an effect on them, or maybe the lens was dusty. Either way they sucked anyway, so i threw them out. :P

I believe some security or copy-protected CD's fail to work [properly on lite-on.

I got it back from Milwaukee PC before, and it works fine now, like I said, they switched out the cable and changed the drives to master and slave rather than cable select. Please read posts in this thread, it was already solved.
