View Full Version : Never trust the TV!

Basically, NEVER TRUST THE TV! I was watching this program about ways to save money and he was talking about switching providers that offer low prices for transferring etc..
But he also recommended phoning up your Mobile Phone (Cell phone to some) provider, go to the cancellations department and say you're thinking of leaving and they should offer you a better plan and/or phone.
So I rang up the T-Mobile cancellations and the guy from India asks for my account details etc and I say I want to cancel and he asks me if I'm sure and I say yes expecting a better deal. What does he do? He cancelled my account. I shall never trust TV again :cry2:

hahaha, you should of known though, that they usually charge you too, specially if it's contract. Did you also say that you want a better deal? Instead of just saying yes? :p

I said yes, the phone sort of went silent and then I said to him can I not just get a better deal and he says I can't now :(

Id ring back, and demand to speak to the floor manager.
Tell him that you were ASKING about disconnection and the bastard disconnected you before you had a chance to say no.

I work for a major carrier here in the US and can PROMISE you, that with the right words, you will get the world on a silver platter from "retention" department.
Yes, that is what they are really called, RETENTION specialists. Get it (retain...)

I could only see that trick working for small business. Because they actually need your business. Large corporations don't really need your business they can do fine with or without it.

Thats how I got a better deal on my cable internet/tv/phone. Small company said I need this this and this but I am spending $x now can you beat it. And they did. [This was after the first call to them and I got a quote that was about $20 higher]

Worst thing was, T have put their prices up for new contracts, so I went into a T Mobile store to try and get the same contract back only to find it was £5.00 more :cry2:

Haha come on.
Ring them up again and demand to speak to one of their superiors. They'll make some offers you can't refuse.

I used to work at Rogers, and I can also assure you that they will do almost anything to keep your business. Matt8 has it right, you need to call retentions. The other people don't care at all if your business is lost, saying you are going to cancel is not going to make things better in any other department. The whole "talking to your supervisor" thing is usually a failed attempt as well. Supervisors are going to do the exact same thing as the operators are trained for.

i worked for at one of these carriers call centres and i was covering on the Retentions dept, it was a totally different system to what i normally use, any waya woman called up she was on a low contract about £12 i think. to cut a long story shorter i managed to get her to stay then the system wigged out, a few days later the floor manager for retentions calls me out it turns out the customer got a N95 and £600 credit, and she was only paying about £12 and they said it was to late to change it cause it went though the bill system
JasonS they normally give u a few days to change ur mind, ring bac and say u wish to uncancel ur contract u had a change of mind

Haha. I used to be with "3" the mobile company in the UK. My contract was up, and I went to cancel. On my contract I had 500 minutes and 500 texts for £25/month.
While on the phone to cancel, I played the dreaded "I've been looking at other providers" and no sooner as I said that, was I transfered to another department, and after 20 minutes on the phone, they offered me 1000 minutes and unlimited texts for £20/month plus a new phone totally free :D hahaha.
I did not take it tho. As I wanted the Apple iPhone, and thats only with o2.

The iPhone is not an iPhone when its unlocked :(
Always a version down from the latest, always buggy, no Visual VoiceMail. No unlimited data plan.
All these things add up when you have an iPhone vs and unlocked iPhone (AKA: iSh*t)
