Hi there,
I'm a photographer from England and I'd like to set up a website of my own as a blog and gallery of my work.
I don't know how to go about it though. I'm pretty good with computers but my only experience of making websites is a geocities website I made a few years ago using their templates.
I'm not after anything amazing. Plain text on a background with inserted images would be fine. Does anyone have the patience to explain to me how you go about that?
I don't mind having adverts but I would like a proper URL (i.e. not one with ".free50meg.something.hard2remember.com" in it). How do you go about getting one? And do you always have to pay monthly / yearly to keep it?
Thanks for your time!

Well, a simple HTML page. If you wanted too, you can use a pre-built image gallery script. You'd also go to a domain registrar and buy a TLD (Top level domain) if that's what you're after. If you wanted, you could use co.cc (http://www.co.cc) for free. If you buy a TLD it'll cost more depending on where you purchase it. GoDaddy (http://www.godaddy.com), Name.com (http://www.Name.com), Namecheap (http://www.namecheap.com) - You'd have to shop around. (also look for coupon codes. You can check here: GoDaddy (http://www.retailmenot.com/view/godaddy.com) name.com (http://www.retailmenot.com/view/name.com), Namecheap (http://www.retailmenot.com/view/namecheap.com) etc)
All the info you need you can find on google. If you don't know HTML, you can learn from W3schools (http://www.w3schools.com/), they're a good place to start.

Id just get some free hosting somewhere and play with the gallery scripts in Fantastico or Installatron. Im sure one of them will suit your purpose.

Hello,
What I suggest you do is work with a wordpress blog. This will take care of the technical side of things if you arent so experienced with building a system like that.
As far as finding a host, you could try wordpress.com or another free web hosting service.

To start, you would register a domain with a registrar such as 123-reg.co.uk. You can get a .co.uk from under £7 for 2 years.
After you have a domain of your choice, you will need to find a web host. If you want to keep your website online 24/7 and have great support, you should go with a paid web host. Most allow you to pay monthly or yearly.
Once you've chosen your web host, you can install wordpress. It might be easier for you to do this through Fantastico as it's very easy and takes a few seconds to install.
When you get everything up and running, search for a nice template then you're all set.

My advice:
Find a web host. Install Wordpress and the Gallery Plugin for Wordpress. These are not hard to install at all and easy to use.
There ya go. ;)
