hi,

I'm part of an online gaming community, and we've been owning some teams for a while.

Some people it seems take games more seriously than the rest of us and so have subjected our website to DDoS attacks.

Now we've gone over some solutions that are extremely expensive, we're looking for a host that provides adequate DDoS protection and we can relax and enjoy the game paying reasonable amounts for the hosting services.

We do have a forum with ~1000 members.

I believe that VPS or dedicated server designed for the games will be find. I believe that is separate industry already

If you are talking about games here I suppose that you should be talking about dedicated servers inly. I suppose that is not easy task for the VPS or smaller web hosting solution

Well, really, I wasnt expecting 10 or 20 dollar plans, we're willing to pay much mroe and no dedicated server doesnt cut it, we have that, one needs specific bit of software and configuration regarding DDoS..

You can use IPTables (*NIX Built in firewall) and block all PING requests, DDoS runs by Pinging 1 IP Address to the point that the victim cannot send or receive any more packets (Denial of Service) as the name suggests. Setting up your server's IPTables to block all Ping requests does help in the matter. I have stress tested a server by using IP Tables to block PING, then using every server I could get my hands on to send large PING Packets to the hardened server. And the server was just as fast as normal ;) But the best way to do it is with hardware DDoS.

I know that Gigenet.com and Internap.com used to provide Anti-DDos solutions that you could employ for your dedicated server.
