If you use Geocities/Yahoo Web Hosting, prepare to get a new webhost.

Sorry, new GeoCities accounts are no longer available.

After careful consideration, we have decided to close GeoCities later this year. We'll share more details this summer. For now, please sign in or visit the help center for more information.

I don't use Geocities anyways, I used them at first to learn things.

I'm betting they'll rebrand any legit users they have.

Geocities is a damaged aging brand name, but the back end is just one more low-end freehost. Suppose they still have some 30,000 users left ... Yahoo is fighting to stay alive, so a batch of users has to be worth something.

I think it's a real shame. But what come up, must come down.

I had an account there too in the early days. It's sad to see it close down.

Heh, I still have a site up there with them. I haven't maintained it since I bought a domain for the same in 2000 :D

I'll be surprised if Yahoo is even operating later this year, let alone Geocities.

Sad to see it go, I also had a account with them since a few years ago.

It is sad to see them go considering that a good portion of us were clients of them at some point in time.
