Fix:
Add usb_storage to /etc/modules

I would recommend you to try OpenSuSe, in my opinion is slightly better. But also Ubuntu is cool.
Good Luck!
What is this 'automount'?
How hard is it to open up a terminal and:
mount /mnt/blah

That was the problem, as you saw from the ubuntuforums thread, the drive would NOT appear in mnt, would NOT appear in fdisk -l, would NOT appear in media, would NOT appear in dev. How can you mount something that does NOT EXIST?
Adding usb_storage to etc/modules fixed that on boot. Otherwise I would've had to unplug and replug the drive each time I wanted both my USB drives and my media card readers to show up (regardless if mounted automatically or not.)

I didn't read the thread. Assumed you wanted it to mount as soon as you plugged it into USB.

That worked fine actually, what I wanted it to do was to have it automount when it booted the OS, which previous Ubuntu versions did, but not 9.04.

You darn lazy whippersnappers, having your linux automatically mount USB drives on boot. Back in mah day, we had to struggle to find a hardware 56k modem to work!

My mother had a 56k external modem, don't talk about those days to me mister. Not to mention, I was raised on a Mac, version 7 and 9.

I killed my Mac iisi running OS 7.1 with 56k modem driver software that had a virus.
Does this mean I win?
