I have a shared ffmpeg hosting account with APT Host, Ive been with them just over a year now.

The last couple of months ive been having problems with them, last month last 2 complete days downtime and very high server loads, the last couple of weeks mysql has gone quite a lot usually about 5-10 mins at a time but sometimes longer.

I also noticed that in cpanel its gone from cpanel advanced to cpanel advanced vps.
I have status2k setup on the account - www.stonerocket.net/status (look at server loads)

Basically I noticed a lot of bad reviews about them recently and starting to get slightly worried about the quality of them, at first they where everything I wanted out of a hosting provider but now im getting second thoughts because of the last couple of months.

To list.
Server was hacked with some unknown php rewriting script - http://www.freewebspace.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2219800
2 days downtime last month around the same time as the hack.
support staff lying (I have chat logs)
mysql down to often.

Im not sure what to do, I would like to stay with them because theres not many good ffmpeg hosting providers out there but as I stated starting to get a little worried, would be to much for me to ask them to move my account to another (more reliable) server? My free hosting service is more reliable than they are now?

Since you have stated you would like to stay with them, there is nothing wrong in asking them to move you to a stable server IMO. If it not possible and you are not getting satisfactory service, I don't think there is nothing you can do other than switch the host.

If they dont then your probably right move provider, only problem is the account is paid in advance til august.

The server load seems to have dropped now. It's at 2.06 according to your Status2k which isn't bad with it being a dual quad core processor. I did check earlier today and the server load was well over 8.

ffmpeg & the like use alot of server resources (RAM/CPU). Their server with 4GB of RAM is just too overloaded to cope with the strain of ffmpeg on all those accounts.

The problem is - As their prices are so cheap (For a ffmpeg host, anyway), they are needing to overload the server to breakeven & make a profit.

Basically - They underestimated the strain ffmpeg would put on the server, and are therefore, stuck with an overloaded server that is usless to anyone.

stonerocket - Your always looking for the "best for your buck", and too right, people should always get the best value for money. But there is a line, on one side, you have "Value for money", and the other side, you have "Waste of money", APThosts servers have now crossed that line.;

I hope from this experiance, you will now understand why people warn you from the offers you normaly take - This outcome is exactly the point they(/me) are trying to make
