In windows xp, when you turn off auto updates how do you remove the red sheild thingy in the bottom right windows bar?

Go into Run, then type in `services.msc` find Windows Security Center. Stop and Disable this process.

Right click the shield, open security center, change the way security center alerts me, untick appropriate box.

Something like that.

No! He's not talking about the Anti-Virus and Firewall, it's the Windows Update.

That would be the correct method
