I used FileVault for the first time ever, and it's ----ed me over already. I can't login to my user account "Stephen" - It doesn't say why, it just says that I need to either; Cancel and login to another account, or, try to fix the problem. It fixes nothing.

Anyone know what to do?

I think it could be an issue with low diskspace. I had 3GB out of a 15GB partition left, but I claimed 1.5GB of that shortly after enabling FileVault with installing Photoshop CS4. Once I logged off, logged back in, it no longer works.

I don't really want to be messing around with resizing partitions incase I screw it up by negligence. Only other option, if this is the case, is using terminal and deleting Photoshop, then disabling FileVault - then installing Photoshop again, yeah?

Problem == Mac

Solution == Buy a PC

:evilb:

In all seriousness, from what I read, FileVault is a partition encryption program. If something (Photoshop) overwrote the keys, you might be screwed. You can try removing PS but I doubt it'll fix your issue.

It's on a "PC", I wouldn't ever buy a Mac just for the record.
I know the way FileVault works, it copys the entire /home directory into an encrypted file, then it deletes the old /home dir with the unencrypted files, then once a file is placed into the /home dir that is unencrypted, once you log out it does the process of creating the copy of the /home dir. So I think it might be due to low disk space.

My bad, I thought FileVault was only on Mac. I could only find a few websites that relates to Mac encryption.

Since you're referring to /home, I guess you are running a distro of Linux or Unix. Either way, I've never heard of the software and I will suggest that you try TrueCrypt (http://www.truecrypt.org/) if you can get your /home unencrypted!

TrueCrypt is a proven system that can encrypt whole partitions, entire drive or simply create an encrypted container for files.

You misunderstood, I am using MacOS, but I'm not running it on a Mac branded computer. It's a Hackintosh dual booted with Windows XP.
