Hi,

I have a question, is it allowed to use other people DNS? right now my vps is using openDNS resolver and OpenDNS block some website (because lingerie, adult theme) so I decide to use pittock.com DNS ns4.pdx.net & ns5 because that is where my vps is located, pittock exchange. Is this actually allowed/legal?

Thanks.

You can change the settings by logging into OpenDNS and adding your IP address. I use OpenDNS at home and on servers as it's more reliable.

You can use
DNS1: 4.2.2.1
DNS2: 4.2.2.2
DNS3: 4.2.2.3
DNS4: 4.2.2.4

They are Level3's DNS servers, fast, reliable and did I mention FAST??

I suppose you need to get in touch with the people and ask the permission for that and then use or not use
I suppose that is the only way you can follow

Is this acctually legal? Are you using it right now?

Yes it is legal, yes I am using them right now (how would I know how fast it is?). They are public DNS servers, mainly because they are a major provider and almost all the traffic goes through them at one point or another (they provide the fiber that ISPs and Datacenters connect to)

OpenDNS is my favorite, pretty much because you can customize it completely through their preferences.
