say this is a test of the built in Mac OS X text to speech engine -o text2speech.aiff on my MBP.

Image-Line Speech Synthesizer, I don't think you can run it standalone, you will need a studio program with VSTi support to use it.

Might want to look into a program called Vocaloid.

It's designed to synthesize vocal lyrics to songs, and is said to be exceptionally high quality.

Biggest drawback being the current versions have some language limitations.
