And how reliable are these services? I put on a few sites nedstat and hitbox and they are far away from showing the same statistics. I tried the english, spanish and german version of nedstat. The code you have to insert is different. With the spanish version the "referred urls" did not work, but it worked with the german and english.

We are talking of free services. hitometer reports only summaries for free.

I installed addfreestats an hour ago and it is now my favourite.

For a quick info I think nedstat is ok. hitbox and addfreestats have long loadtimes.

It is a free service! What site were you looking at? I've used all of them and hitometer gives you more when you click on full report.

Note: If you just look a little further you might see that link.

I had a hitometer a long time ago. All the stats I got were how many visits per day, countries(?I think), popular days/hours and such. No things like Screen Res, Java Status and stuff like that. Mybe they added those since I left though.

2.What is the difference between the free and paid versions?

The free version has limited reporting capabilities. Only the summary statistics are tracked.

Agreed with how they used to be. They were pretty limited back then, however now is the most tracking that I've seen. Here is what you get with the free service;

*User Browser/Platform Selection
*Video Characteristics
*JavaScript version
*Referral protocols and types
*Referring hosts
*Top referring pages
*Hit reports by time and date
*Visitor's network and physical location
*Site type & Country
*Top domains visiting your site
*Search engine utilization
*Top search engines used to find your site
*Keywords your visitors are searching for
*Most popular search phrases
*Visitor Loyalty/Frequency
*Visitor Loyalty (# of previous visits)
*Visitor Frequency (time since last visit)
*Average time between visits

I understand when you sign up for the first time, it is just the basic. But when you do log into your account and press upgrade...it will give you the full report from what I've listed above.

I don't really know the paid version has or the difference. All I know is that I am very happy with this service and allows you with a invisible counter.

My best bet is to go http://www.cgi-resources.com if you are not a programmer. I have my own perl programming tracking system that I used at my work. But if you don't have a host that support what you have then, this is the best third party tracking system that I usually use with my clients.

Just only my opinion:)

I see what you mean. It does give you all this detailed information, but only one day at a time. You can't view say, the total percentage of browsers users visit your site with for the whole month. Only on one specific day. I still think http://www.thecounter.com is the best.

Ahhhhh yeahhhhh....of course. It shows you the entire year from month to month. All you have to do is click on a specfic month you want to view. It also send you the email of your statistics.

But hey, whom am I want to persaude here, if you think thecounter.com is the best for you then all powers to you. I just like hitometer is because it gives you the option of the invisible banner on your webpage.

AFAIK only hitbox and addfreestats allows you to track individual pages. The hitbox "side-counter"-code is easy to install, because you have to define a name in the code only, while with addfreestats you have to register the page.

Since hitbox did not show me a lot of visits, which nedstat showed, I installed as 3rd counter addfreestats. Let's see if there are a lot of visits which addfreestats does not show.

I made a testpage with a few counters including thecounter. It happened more than once, that the loading of the page stopped at "thecounter-icon". Sometimes it took more than a minute that the whole page was loaded, sometimes I had to do a reload. No visitor would wait a minute till the counter has checked everything. So I removed the code and now the page is loaded fast.

That happened to me also. It has to do with the faulty coding on TheCounter's javascript. If the counter cannot load, it stops the entire page from loading.

Okay, thecounter.com is slow. There is a way to make it invisible though. Just go to the config section when you log in, and it will ask you what kind of style you want. Click Invisible. Id hitometer faster than thecounter.com though?

TheCounter.com is not as bad as they were. They do miss some hits though... I have a page with two counters on it and they always show less... And there's been a couple of days that they showed zero, but my other counter showed the average amount.

I use http://www.sitemeter.com and http://www.thecounter.com their both very good ... even though Thecounter.com misses some hits and is sometimes down ... it helps me a lot since sitmeter ont svae the info about the users ... just the last 100 visitors.
