Hi Guys,

I'm working on this new audio player on lines of WinAmp but totally web-centric and internet ready. Just wondering what features would you like to see in an audio player (mp3,wma,wav,cda only). I know that WinAmp and JetAudio rock and we don't need *another* audio player, but I just wan't to experiment.

So, would love to hear from all! Thanx.

Asben, you would be a GOD if you could make a player that supported RealAudio so people could use it to replace RealPlayer. RealPlayer eats so much friggin' RAM if you replaced it you would be the coolest.

Thanks for your suggestion Nick. I'll keep it mind.

Midi's are rising up in popularity also, try supporting that. Also, I would like to have that song selector like the one you see in Winamp, where you can chose what song you want to play by easily selecting it in the list. Other players make you go through dozens of menus to play a song you want.

I thought midi's are history with the arrival of digital audio (like : mp3, wma and ogg). Anyways, thanks for your suggestion. As you mentioned the audio player would have a playlist for easy song selection.

My idea is not to complicate the application with too many goodies but rather build a "most wanted" player with minimal but mostly used features.

Hmm, maybe you should make two versions ashben. A souped up feature loaded one and a stripped down one... Just an idea.

I thought about it but decided on doing just one release. Thanks for the tip!

Also maybe include some tools that allow the user to convert diffirent audio files to diffirent formats (ie. wav to WMA)

The audio player would include a "code" utiltiy to encode and decode audio. You may be able to burn CD's from mp3's, convert wav's to mp3's etc.

Later on I'll also add OGG support with an OGG encoder (wav -> ogg, mp3 -> ogg).

What decoder engine are you going to use?

I'm working on a custom encoder and decoder engine. Infact this and the web interface are the only things taking time. The basic structure of the audio player is ready. If the encoding and decoding modules take too much time then for now I'll release the first beta version with BladeEnc as the backend encoder and Native-CDDA as the backend decoder (CD to Wav).

If you don't have the time for an MP3 decoder, I heard that MAD has better sound than the Franheoffer (however you spell it) decoder engine. And it's free too!

Ok guys! Its launched. We'll, I'm really excited about the whole project, all the more since I've been working with developers from around the globe on this baby.

Its called "broid" and you may check it out at http://www.broid.com ;-)

Sorry, but this beta does not include RealAudio support or an encoder engine as we discussed, but these & more features are in the pipeline.

Let me know how you find it?
