How can you tell what type of RAM you have in your computer without actually popping open the case and looking at the RAM chip itself? Is that possible? Thanks.

Ram[lhomme] April 2nd, 2002, 19:06 How can you tell what type of RAM you have in your computer without actually popping open the case and looking at the RAM chip itself? Is that possible? Thanks. meow April 2nd, 2002, 19:46 What I have that can do it is Sisoft Sandra (there is a free version). http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/sandra guitarnerd April 6th, 2002, 00:53 If you know what type of motherboard you have you can probably tell from that. [lhomme] April 6th, 2002, 10:43 Probably, but the Sisoft software worked well. :) I just didnt want to bump an old thread to rethank Meow. meow April 6th, 2002, 10:53 No? Rethink man, rethink! ;) Christopher April 6th, 2002, 10:58 Or you could have just right-clicked on My Computer and choose Properties, then click on the Performance tab, is says right there what your RAM is, at least on my machine... EDIT: Nevermind, I just re-read your post, you wanted to know what type of RAM... Homeygwiz April 11th, 2002, 15:26 I believe the best way would be if you had your documentation of your motherboard. It usually says what types of RAM chips are on your motherboard. HGW - "32 megs of RAM ... Man I need to upgrade !!!":p tandoc April 12th, 2002, 20:29 well i myself wanted more ram.. but my mother board coudn't handle it.... most older-computers... they use SDRAM... newer computers... using DDR Ram... I THINK~ i'm not 100% sure... or just try going to your computers manufacturers website and do a search on your computer model and it would probably give you what you need :p trenzterra April 12th, 2002, 20:40 Originally posted by [lhomme] Probably, but the Sisoft software worked well. :) I just didnt want to bump an old thread to rethank Meow. which part do i find the info? Is that possible? Thanks. I went to Crucial.com and used their search/matching feature. If you know the make and model of your computer then Crucial has the type of RAM that is needed for it. [lhomme] April 14th, 2002, 10:10 Its a custom built computer. And trenzterra, it should be under RAM or Memory. Bruce April 14th, 2002, 10:20 Originally posted by [lhomme] Its a custom built computer. You built the computer, but you don't know what kind of RAM is in it? Hmm... trenzterra April 14th, 2002, 10:21 Originally posted by [lhomme] Its a custom built computer. And trenzterra, it should be under RAM or Memory. can't find the name anywhere... | ||||
