I have nutscrape, but I dont use it. I'm not sure why anyone would.

I guess I have it to make sure my site is compatible with it. (I get a lot of traffic from a toplist that requires ----scrape compatibility.

when I look at my stats, I have had 3 visitors in as many months using netscape

dear agony aunt,

should I spend the time making my site compatible for these 3 people ?

I use IE. but I have a netscape on my PC. Never bother to use it. The netscape.exe file hasn't been touched for 3 years now

Dusty

If your site is incompatible with Netscape, don't you think that may at least partially account for why no Netscape users frequent you?

Of course, your site should be compatible with as many browsers as possible.

good point Dusty, I check my pages when I make them with the little tool in DW that flicks over to IE and Netscape

I often have to fuss around with little things to make it right in both ... there's never any trouble with IE

sometimes I think "why spend this time"?

WHICH NETSCAPE? :p
If you are talking about Netscape4x what do you mean with compatible? If you mean "look exactly the same", then no, I don't think you should. That doesn't mean it has to stop to work in old browsers or that they have to see elements floating around all over the page if CSS is the problem (and what else would be?). Make it in a way that it degrade in reasonable way.

If you are talking about Netscape6, yes of course you should.

Here is my browser activity from sitemeter. Seems to still be enough Netscape 4x activity to warrant website compatibility.

Oh ----! 8% WebTV. :(

Jan
April 4th, 2002, 02:17
Yes, pretty high considering I don't make it webtv compatible. They like huge text. They also can't view javascript, well the earlier versions couldn't at least. :confused2

They don't even have a hor. scrollbar I've heard and resize pages to fit on their sillly low res instead. They aren't common here (we are a modern people and use computers :p) but I've tried an emulator a couple of times. :cry2:

gasp gasp gasp

do I have to pander to web tv as well ?

Jan
April 4th, 2002, 08:56
No, I would worry about that. They are happy with their keyboard, they like forwarding URLs to all on their list. I have never had complaints from anyone on webtv.

WHAT are you talking about? Keyboards and forwarding URLs and lists?

I use IE,but I would have used Netscape if it wasn't purchased by AOL (after that it seemed to go down hill).

I only use netscape if i am using linux. most of the webpages looks like a mess on netscape. I rather use MSIE than netscape

I would'nt mind trying nutscrape again ....

But i think i'll stick with my IE / Opera / mozilla combo

I used Netscape...until it kept crashing all the time on me so I switched to IE. It's only crashed about twice compared to NS 4.7s 1351359823459823 times. Oh, I also have Ns 6.2 but I rarely use it -- it takes up too much resources and is TOOOOO slow!!

I use Opera, and I never bothered to re-download Mozilla after I reformatted my hard drive. I really should get mozilla again.........now, I get annoyed whenever i use IE because it's extremely slow compared to Opera and Mozilla.

I don't notice a speed difference between any of the browsers but maybe thats because I have ADSL.

Netscape is a good browser, just your web design isn't compatible. :classic2:

Don't say that. IE Mac is popular and a better browser than IE Win.

I think IE mac is more stable but that might be because of the mac os.

That doesn't mean IE is better. It means those designers suck ---.

I have only used IE mac (not it's windows counterpart) but I recall Mac Addict said the mac edition has more features.
However, the stability is only a little better. Once for example I was trying to view one of these forums and I got the message "THE APPLICATION INTERNET EXPLORER HAS UNEXPECTEDLY QUIT." On the otherhand this type of thing only happens when the computer as been on for a long time and there has very little ram, or if you drag the wrong type of file to Dream Weaver 4.

Ah, IE MAC is supposed to be a much better browser than the Win version. Its built on the famous Tasman rendering engine. I've never got to lay my paws on a Mac though, but that's what they say... :cry2:
