Windows vs. Linux

Actually I really want to try Linux and get rid of Windows. But there are still many people using Windows and often I have to exchange files with them. The file types that I use frequently is .doc, .pdf., .p65 (Adobe Pagemaker), .jpg., .bmp. Do those files compatible with Linux? I mean when I create a jpg file using Photoshop for windows, can I open this file in Linux? On the other hand, if I create a jpg or other file types in Linux, can I open it in Windows?

Please advise. Thanks.

1. You can always use a VPC [virtual pc] or an emulator like WinE if you crave Adobe Photoshop. [i.e. VMWare]

2. In response to your questions:

If you're running WinE or even an installation of Windows within Linux, then you can open those files in Adobe Pagemaker or the respective program if you wish.

Yes. Yes.

FYI, you can run dual boots so you can get both worlds--just partition your HD.

You can't compare Windows to Linux. It's not possible.

Windows was created for simple users to do multiple tasks without problems.

Linux was created to do multiple tasks for advance users.

If you have to get an emulator for windows are do a boot select, because you need windows features, what is the advantage in having linux? I guess it depends on your needs.

Thanks for the posting from all of you. I want to move to Linux but I am working for peoples that demand me to submit my works in windows files I mentioned before.

I am interested in the emulator mentioned by Kentaro. Can you tell me where could I get WinE? Does it support switching between OS-es in one mouse-click?

Thanks.
