you can reseller for someone. becoming a real registrar is very costly. I think like $10,000 or so I read somewhere. You can resell for enom they have a good package but you have to have like $500 up front

I just checked out dotster.com's but I don't think anyone would buy a domain at the prices you have to offer. It's 60.00 for a .cc, 12.00 for a .com, and then you have to up the prices to make a profit.

Anyone know a better reseller or have more info on becoming a registrar?

To become an offical registrar, you much first get accredit by ICANN. You must 1st apply for registara accreditation. The application fee is $2500 (non-refundable). Once you are accepted, you could start setting up your system to sell domain names. To sell one TLD, its $4000 and $500 for each additional TLD.

If you wants to sell com/net/org, you must contact Verisign to get the contract and software needed for your server. (btw, Verisign must require that you are a real company registered w/ the government). For each domain names you sell, they get $6. There are other fees, but you don't have to worry about it until you become huge.

How do you get your own extension like www.tk?

You don't. .tk was a existing extension but it wasn't used. Someone discovered and decided to do something with it. You obviously need the countries approval.

Hi

Well it's too expensive and almost impossible to get it up and running on your own.

I did a small one using qld.nu and register names as though thye are a unique queenland name. It works well for me an I sell hosting witrh a free name like www.mytown.qld.nu am hosting quite a few and my register works well.. automated. I can host the name on any server too.

I'm planning become a domain reseller too. Perharps this can help:

http://www.namecheap.com

I bought 5 domains through them. I already sent email to them ask about reseller program and this is a little explanation from them:
-------------
There is a $25 non refundable processing fee for setting up your reseller account. There is no deposit or minimum to buy neccessary.Your price per domain will be $7.99 for .com, .net, .org, .info, and .biz .
What is RegistryRocket?
RegistryRocket is a customizable e-commerce web page and a Credit Card Processing service for resellers. It is designed as a tool for you to sell domain names. You give your site a name, upload a logo (or not), and set the pricing. We take care of the website hosting, merchant processing and other services.
Track sales and watch your account balance grow in your reseller account. Whether this is your permanent e-commerce solution for domain name sales, or an interim option until you have your own merchant account established, RegistryRocket works.

If you already host your Domain Name web site, and want to just use the Credit Card Processing feature, you can do so by running the API on your web site. This feature will be accessible once you have agreed to the RegistryRocket terms.

Why use RegistryRocket credit card processing?
Attention resellers! Now you can simplify the payment collection portion of your transactions.
Here are some of the benefits:
Accept credit card payments
Fast and secure payments
Low fees

The site is in php and I use a sql database for the domain name information.

I manually set the ns for each site registered took a wee while to set up but works well.

You would need someone to host your doamins thought and this costs money. Of course you can use some of the free ones (not many left now)

Good luck
