Is it possible to convert a music cd into mp3 format(and transer it on the hdd) for free? if so, how?

make sure you own those cd's that you are copying the music from, cause if you dont own the cd's it is still illegal.

If you download music that you already have on CD it's not illegal.

no what he is doing is copying from music cds to his hard drive, and i am saying that if he does not own those cd's it is illegal, same as if you download songs of the internet and do not own the cd's. But if you own the cd's then it is perfectly legal.

I had a titanic cd and I don't know where it is :(

I don't think so, think of it this way:
The police come to your house saying you downloaded illegal music, you say that you have the titanic CD, they ask to see it for proof, since you lost it, no proof, illegal.
Soo, if yo lost it - technically you don't have it do you?

Now I came across a goverment site(http://www.mita.gov.sg) and their song page lets us download singapore songs for free. Is this legal?
