Hello there!
I'm looking for a webspaceprovider offering me
webspace around 20-50 MB
ftp access
cgi support
Access (ftp and http) should be fast! There _can_ be adds, but only _one_ pop-up for the whole site....
I already tried:
fs2.com (slow)
prohosting.com (pop-up for every page)
webprovider.com (the same)
saxen.net (slow)
Can anybody help me??
Thank's a lot!

Someone mentioned netfirms. Their page loads pretty quick from here (UK) http://www.netfirms.com

Thanks Laurie,
but...
...unfortunately I found this in the Terms of use:
"...User agrees that Netfirms has the right to place banner advertisement at the top of each of page on the Site...."
Well, I see the need of advertisment. But I don't want to accept it on every page...
Thanks anyway,
Bobbele

FWPs cost money. If they're only getting one banner view/visitor for every member they have they would be loosing a load of money. You will most likely not find a host that does this. Spaceports tried, it failed. Pay for a host or put up with the ads.

Maybe you should get used to the ads now, cause ad-free fwp's won't be around much longer. Maybe ones like sphosting.com that are supported by banners displayed when you are uploading files, but you can't use cgi this way(yet), and it is a lot harder to use than FTP. But spaceports is a great host with ads. Mostly because the ads are user placeable, and they give you 10 cents a click.

Only one ad for the entire site is impossible with all those features. http://www.netcabins.com comes closest (user placable banners) but their signups are down.

Hi!
Thanks for your answers.
I'm not a professional in marketing and all this stuff, but I'm wondering if it is really sensfull as an fwp putting up to let's say 4 pop-ups (cause of frames) on every page of its users. And even if there're no frames: It is simply annoying for my visitors to close a pop-up on every page. I do know, that they won't read any one of these advertisments.
I think, it would be different, if there is only one pop-up... A visitor will probably read this one and maybe even click on it. And this one click is much more important for the fwp then every page-view, isn't it?
However: I know, that most fwp's think different. And maybe they are right.
But maybe there are someones thinking like me. I'm searching for them...
Greetings and thanks again for your help,
Bobbele

I don't know about everybody else, but the instant I see pop-ups I either X them into nothingness or ALT+F4 them outta sight, I don't give a ---- to what the content is, pop-ups are pop-ups.
definition according to LeX
pop up n 1 annoying, useless. ('cause I'm guessing nobody even glances at them).

You can use a file manager to use cgi. Many file managers have the option to CHMOD a file within the manger. But it's much harder.

Not if they're getting paid per banner impression...
