Which is a better screen size?

1) 800x600
2) 1024x768
3) As most as your graphics card can do

I use 800x600

I think 1028 X 768. It's a nice resolution for me. But perhaps the best is as much as you can go.

1280 x 1024 is the best screen resolution ;)

1152X864 is the best screen resolution.
1280X1024 is way too large.

GC, I was like that but I was persuaded to go to 1280x1024 and I thought "This is waaayy to big" but I left it and I got used to it. Any decent resolution is good when you leave it on for a few hours but if you want to take advantage of your monitor and see the most on your screen 1280x1024 is the way to go. ;)

Giancarlo
April 8th, 2002, 08:19
Actually that is not true. 1280X1024 has the slowest FPS for any graphics card for games... so I stuck with 1152X864. I believe that resolution is the one that takes the most advantage. Decent speed and good resolution.

Akalon

I thought we were talking about desktop resolution, if so best desktop res = 1280x1024 (for 17")

I play all my games in 1024x768, no need to go higher and I get excellent FPS.

Giancarlo
April 8th, 2002, 08:24
The best desktop res for me is 1152X864 there is plenty of space left.

Yeah, I know how you feel :D I used to love 1152x864 too :p Take my advice, try 1280x1024 for 1 day and then change back if you want to.

Yeah, 800x600 is incredibly small.

[ADD:]Arhh.. in 800x600 the FWS forum list doesn't even fit in one screen! :biggrin2:

I am inclined to agree. I used to use it on my old 14" monitor, and it was filled up no time.

Haha, at 800x600, one normal sized MSN chat window takes up the whole screen and this post will take up more than one browser screen :D

My MSN windows aren't taking up the whole screen.

And well yeah... 800*600 suits my needs perfectly, so I'm not about to complain about it.

How come? There's a little room on the sides, but height is full screen.

Wouldn't that depend on your eyesight, what kind of work you use the computer for and THE SCREEN SIZE?

"800*600 is too small". Sheesh. :confused2

1920x1440 is what I'll be running soon...

1024x768 (my max res.) until then...

It all really depends on what you'll be using your PC for...

My main monitor is a 25' and I use 1152x870. It can go to 1600x1200....but sheesh, I wouldnt be able to read anything on that! I sit back away from my desk with a wireless mouse and wireless keyboard, with my feet up on on the desk. Any higher reso than I have now, and I have to sit like someone who is actually working instead of compfy :D

Well if you count dual monitors I use two 19" monitors. Not quite the same as a 25 though, nice! :)

I personally like this monitor:
http://www.apple.com/displays/acd23/

I just wonder how the video card would perform with two dual monitors at 3840x1200. Impressive set of monitors, to bad they will cost you $7,000 + a mac powerful enough to work with them. I've never been a big mac fan but OS X on two of those monitors would be quite impressive to say the least.

Hell yes... look at the difference in browser space. Google barely fits on one screen!

Correction: Google fits perfectly onto one screen!

I suppose it's a good thing, having all that handy unused white space all over the place? :biggrin2:

 Google is WebTV safe for pete's sake (540,480) :biggrin2:

What I meant thought that without knowing the size of the sceeen the resolution doesn't make much sense. I wouldn't like to use a 15# screen @ 1600- or a 19" @ 800*600 or lower. A person with bad eyesight may need even lower res on the other hand.

That's all depending on how large your monitor is and how small text you can put up with. I'm using 1024x768 on a 19 inch monitor. I can go quite higher than that, but I find it all too small when I do, so I don't.

Anyway, I think it all depends on the size of your monitor and how far you site from it. My dads office has a 21" monitor, the thing is huge! but he likes 1024X768 other wise I would use 1152x870

We're going to watch his new account closely to see if he lives up to his promises. If not an IP ban will be placed on him, otherwise he will have taken advantage of the second chance we're providing him.

I have a lousy graphics card(coz i'm using a laptop)...

anyway 1024x768 is the best for me, and also LCD screens only let you select one resolution that displays best.
