Hello everyone.

L33t.ca has been down for the past few hours because of heat problems. Long story short, our CPU fan just burnt the ---- out and stopped spinning, so the whole system overheated sometime last night (NEVER trust a silverOrb fan!).

Deth is at the hosting company right now installing our new fan and our new HD. The server should be back up by 5:00 today, with our new HD, and we will resume accepting new sign ups.

Before this crash (which was due to our ----ty fan and was very much out of our control), the server was up, stable, and fast for almost exactly 4 weeks. LARGE improvement to what it was before.

A few words about what l33t.ca is becomming.

We're stearing away from the free hosting stuff for now. You can still sign up for free, use all our services for free (basically any wacky service your site needs, we have), and get 100mb of free transfer.

The 100mb of free transfer is more of a "Try Before You Buy" thing now a days. You can host a decent site for 100mb of transfer a month, but if you go above 100mb, Deth and I think that it's time you started paying our (VERY reasonable) prices.

Prices :

Once you go over your 100mb, your site will be put on hold until you give us $6. Once you give us $6 you will be allowed to go up to 1Gb of transfer. Past that, each Gb of transfer will cost you $4.

The bandwidth DOES transfer over to the next month. It's basically there until you use it. So, for example, if you use 1.2Gb of bandwidth in April, but you've bought 3Gb's of transfer off of us, that means that for May, you have 1Gb of transfer left for that month. That 800mb gets removed, but that's the way our ISP charges us, so that's the way we have to charge.. sorry!

Once you pay us, your site will NOT HAVE ADS ON IT. We don't have the ad system in place yet, so you guys won't have to worry about that for a while.

We're VERY flexible on our payment options. We accept PayPal as our prefered method of payment, but we also accept money orders, certified cheques, heck, even envelopes full of cash.

That's basically it. L33t.ca is about as good as it's gonna get when it comes to "Free Hosts" in my opinion. The way it's setup right now, we'll at least be around for a good long while, and mod_l33t makes us WAY faster than any competition we have, it seriously is our secret weapon. It might cost you some, but at least you won't turn into some Internet Gypsy, moving your site around to different free hosts as they come and go.

You can keep kidding yourself saying that you've found the "Perfect Free Host" that will take on too many sign ups, become slow as ---, give you NO tech support, and eventually go belly up. OR you could hop on our ship, scrape together $6 (or NOT go over 100mb of transfer :D ) and be rid of the headache for GOOD!!!

If your CPU fan just went out, then how do you know that your CPU is still good? A CPU cannot run for more then 10 minutes at high temp. without doing really bad damage(I know, burnt out 5 already)

Hahahaa, should be back up soon..

Yeah the CPU works fine (suprisingly!)....

It's a thunderbird, a.k.a, heat and power -----.. but.. I guess it's what we're stuck with since I'm to cheap to go buy a new CPU..

Is the fee monthly or what?

DethPigeon
April 8th, 2002, 16:51
yes, the fee is 6$ a month, and 4$ for any extra gigs you use in that month. Note that if you use under 100 MB in a month, there's no charge for that month.

or if you want it in obnoxious marketing terms:

ONLY 5.99$ PER MONTH FOR RELIABLE AND EASY HOSTING, AND TECH SUPPORT!

When you pay l33t.ca it goes into your balance. So you can just give us 72$, and you'll potentially be set for the next year (depending on if you ever use any "extra GB").

From the Account Manager you can view all your balance information and invoices are generated every month.

This payment stuff is all VERY old news by the way. It's been this way for almost 2 months.

Lots of people use L33t as part of their username. It means "elite," if you didn't know.

Actually, waaaay back in the day, l33t.ca used to be little more than a CS server. We all used to play on it everyday after school, and many of us failed our courses because of it.

I regret nothing though!!
