SPHosting, do you know that you have a cybersquatter being hosted on your servers? This squatter was interviewed by our local newspaper, so I went to some of the domains that he registered. Two of the domains are: http://www.universityofsaskatchewan.com and http://www.governmentofsaskatchewan.com (if you didn't know, Saskatchewan is a province in Canada)
As what he is doing is not illegal as of now, you may continue to do whatever you want with this person. But I was just wanting to inform you on this matter.

I know, especially when they take government and educational facilities, that is why I am informing SPHosting about this.

Shouldn't the goverment be using http://www.governmentofsaskatchewan.gov and http://www.universityofsaskatchewan.edu anyway?

This is Canada. There are no .edu's or .gov's.
Besides, people who do not know that much about the internet isn't going to know about .gov's or .edu's. For example, I wanna see some stuff about that little white house in the middle of Washington D.C. so I would want to go to whitehouse.com, it just fits naturally. Unfortunately, it's a porn site.

Any person would expect whitehouse.com to be the house you find in Washington D.C. But it's not, there are probably hundreds of people going to that site and wondering what the heck the U.S.A is doing.

I'm pretty sure I remember hearing a story about a white house staffer who accidentally went to whitehouse.com instead of whitehouse.gov. I think he hit the "enter" button, went up to get a cup of coffee, and came back only to find most of the office staring at his computer. I can't remember if he got punished (he may have been fired, and then sued for wrongful firing or something). Anymore, a government agency should just register the .gov, and have the .net .com and .org versions of that domain name redirect to .gov.

"whitehouse" isn't a registered "trademark"? so they can't sue the company who's behind whitehouse.com???

Ouch, I wouldn't like to be that person.

You can't sue someone for having a name like whitehouse, it's like suing someone for owning redcar or blackshoe. Extremly silly! ;)

huh? well, have you ever heard of realnames? I tried applying for the word "doraemon" and it tells me I can't because I'm not the owner of doraemon (name of manga). I was thinking it was the same with domains....

Doraemon is a large trademarked name in Japan. Over there Doraemon is like Bugs Bunny, now do you think you'd leggally be allowed to keep that?
And I continue, it's your goverment's fault for calling there pinacle of society a white house. No one else's doing, sure, they should have registered it first and it would have been a good idea!
Althought there is absolutley nothing you can do to stop someone else owning whitehouse.com.
Anyway that's just the cows oppinion. ;)

Imagine how many little kids that went to WhiteHouse.com trying to do a report on it and ended up on a porn site. I'm surprised that "one outraged mother" hasn't nailed WhiteHouse.com's --- to the wall yet.

There probably were tons of outraged parents. But I don't think whitehouse.com is wanting to sell their domain.

The users not breaching any sphosting.com rules, The domains are not been hosted on our servers but been redirected so you'll have to take it up with his domain name company. Sorry but there is nothing I can do as he has no broken any of our terms and conditions.

Ok. I know that he wasn't breaking any rules but I was just wondering how you were going to treat this problem as many people hate cybersquatters. (I told you this because every host has some term that allows them to remove your site for any reason.)

Your passport. ;)
I was busy talking to the Americans, and how they manage to name their important buildings after colours and shapes;
White house
Pentagon
Hey let's sue the owner of pentagon.com while we're busy fighting for the white house! ;)
