I believe Brinkster has a 200meg transfer limit, not much better than Portland.

not everyone can afford a paid account or has a friend who has a dedicated cobalt server to host their domain off. Portland seems like a 5-Star FWS to beginners online.

Portland is good for unlimited ad free subdomains to redirect all over the place :)

Portland's speed is too varied. Sometimes my page would load in less than a second, others, more than 30 seconds. Free domain hosting ain't bad though.

I used them until I got paid hosting because having my domain hosted, with no ads, looked way more professional for a web design business. :)
