What do ya'll have to say about pause page ads compared to popup, popunder, banner bars etc on a free web host?

Whereas the pause page would be shown once every hour, the banner would be a bar, and the popup / under would spawn multiple times.

Welcome to the forums LeepinLizard! :)

I personally would prefer one pause page than multiple spawning pop-ups or a banner frame... but that's just me. :)

ANy info on which networks offer pause pages? And how do these pause pages work? I mean how do they modify the link so that it goes to a pause page.

I am not sure what networks offer them - DKADs was going to but has not.

I plan on offering them myself using a combination of CPC banners and CPA ads.

We are an ISP, and also run a free web host.

www.v3.com allows you to choose between popup, delay page and banner.

Hi,

We were offering it, but have had a lot of trouble selling the ad space -- it is new and many buyers are just not interested in something like this, so it is taking a lot of convincing.

LeepinLizard: How exactly will you implement them? Got any scripts/code in mind?

I think v3 is a redirection service and not an ad network??

For all intents and purposes it's an interstitial, but dkAds referred to them by that name.

Basicly, a publisher affixes some special code to a selection of his internal links. Then, if a PausePage Ad is available, when a user clicks on that link - rather than being taken directly to the target URL - he's taken to a page that features a large ad paid for on a CPM basis. That page either features a link asking the user to "click here to proceed to your target page", or (as seems to be the more common case), refreshes after a few seconds so as to automatically redirect the user to his intended target.

The idea is that these are less intrusive, but more productive, than popup/popunder ads. The question now is whether advertisers will become interested in the format over alternatives such as the Unicast Superstitial, Shoshkeles and other 'takeover' variants.

Czar,

As usual, very good post! To comment on the advertisers reaction to Pause Pages, we have not been able to sell a CPM campaign as of yet. Most advertisers originally interested in PP CPM end up going with either a small CPC campaign on them, or just go to CPC banners instead.

It has been difficult to even spark interest in them, many advertisers simply feel that Pause Pages won't work for generating results, even when presented with evidence to the contrary.

I would tend to believe your evidence - especially when comparing the rates offered by dkAds to those demanded by EyeBlaster/Unicast clients.

The real limitation, I would suggest, is more likely to simply be an economic one in that when things are tight for advertisers, they tend to be compelled to return to old favorites and established standards, rather than designate a portion of their media buy to experimental options.

Perhaps you could pitch the product as a perfect way to showcase IAB-standard Large-Rec spaces and their variants (such as rich-media 300x300, 250x300 and similar boxes). With Ad.com, Websponsors and others beginning to deliver such creatives to indie properties, it would seem that interest there is gradually increasing.

Anyway, 2 cents.
