Does anyone know what is the URL for OBB 1? Or is it the same cos at the bottom of the support is OpenBB 2.0 . Are they continuing 1.x?

MrCary
April 16th, 2002, 19:08
Red Guy:

Although I'm no longer affiliated with OpenBB I may be able to answer your question.

www.openbb.com is the address for both OpenBB 1 and OpenBB 2

OpenBB 1 Final will be released soon, and the next version after final will be 2.0 - The support forums are just a "sneak preview" of the OBB2 Design :)

I hope this answers your question.

The Red Guy

I think Ace (Lindy) continued with the project on her own and if I can recall Iansoft called it quits. Only some developers went to the new site.

[lhomme]:

I really can't go too deep into the issue, but I'll just say it didn't turn out the way we all wanted.

Although, officially, I am not longer with OpenBB, I might stick around and still assist users with support.

Also, please check your private messages :)

Red Guy:

Lindy is a "he." Also, developers "did" want to continue with OBB, but as you can see in the annoucement forum, all the developers except Lindy were let go.

I wish I could go deeper into, but I was told not to, but maybe in the future I can :)

Rather than creating a separate version of Invision Board written in Perl, we have instead decided to create a Perl module to interface with the PHP software. The Perl module will be designed to be included in any Perl script and will have an assortment of functions that can be called in any script to access features of Invision Board. Features such as the registration system, login system, profile information, post information, and more will be included.
ibf.x will be an experimental XML board.

They are .cgi files because if they were .php then anyone wanting to view the data files could just type in the full path and and user data would flood the screen, but with .cgi extensions, the server tries to execute the file, which it can't, so it just returns a cgi error message.

In the future this might be changed.

It does suck, in my eyes, but I know that everyone has different opinions. Another reason I do this often is because I am sick and tired of hearing people saying that phpBB2 is the best thing ever created. There are flaws, and nobody ever seems to admit it.

MSN Communities has changed its name (on 6/16/02) to MSN Groups. The new URL is http://groups.msn.com and the old URL for Communities will be working for six months after the uprgade (so about December, it will be invalid and you will get a 404 error if you try to go to the old url).

It needs to be updated by December 16 because of the URL change.

Thanks!:)
