Technically it's safer on VA because your FTP username is different than your subdomain so it's harder to hack, but other than that. Nothing else is different.

Hypermart is better. Scripts that come with VA only work on Hypermart.

Aren't both of those only for small business? Not sure, but I think a while ago when I was looking at hypermart, they said they wouldn't accept any other kind of sites except business(no personal). Well, I did have a site on virtual ave, and it was good. In fact, I still run some cgi scripts off it(instead of uploading a form mailer script on ALL my sites). Pretty good service, if you don't mind the banners.

I know for a fact that hypermart accepts all sites. Not sure about virtualave, but I think they accept all sites.

I read somewhere during the registration process at virtualave that their target are commercial sites, but they accept personal sites too. My testsite is 1 day online and they did not cancel my private site.

On hypermarts sign up page
HyperMart hosts only business Web sites.
From virtualave's TOS
3.1 This service is provided for BUSINESSES only. No personal home pages are allowed.
We'll, I guess they are for businesses only. But I bet less than 50% of users actually have a business site.

I don't think they enforce that rule as I have never seen a business site on Hypermart.
