I want to have dual boot with the OS on different HDs. I found a reference on the Net to an option in Windows NT/2K that when enabled lists all available OSes at startup and lets you choose.
Is this true or do I need a third party software?

At startup there is a screen where you can select which OS you want to use. It's much simpler than something such as Boot Magic, but it gets the job done.

Great, thanks!
I want to get some things straight before I take the big jump from Win95. :p
BTW I'm on Win98 now and that sucks. :devious2:

Can I make my dual boot just boot normally? Like instead of choosing each time, just make it go right through?
I have Win2K and don't really want it on this computer, I have no clue how to uninstall it so the next best thing is to take the dual boot off...

Yes you can have it automatically boot to one of your two OS's Here is what you need to do...
Go to system in the control panel, then go to the advanced tab, then system start up and recovery, then once you are there there should be a little tab that let's you pick which OS is automatically highlighted at start up, just uncheck those two check boxes or put the time to 0 and it will work

One problem... I don't have the advanced tab... Do you mean do this from the Win2k OS, or WinME?

Ok! Thanx a bunch, now - lets say I wanted to get rid of Win2k, the files and all - do any of you know how to do it?

I think it is only possible if it is on it's own partition/drive

So what would happen if I set the boot up to the WinME, then just deleted the Win2k folders, would that screw up the comp?

No I have done that before, cause I didn't feel like doing a full install, just delete it, there is also some stuff I had to edit on that thing I told you about under the advanced tab.

I love this thread. Keep it coming guys - I'll soon need it.
I've got 2K on as I want it now (think). Someone told me it could hurt my sustem (make it not boot) if I try to boot with Win95 from my old disk. I don't believe him. He is an MS fanatic and wants me to go XP.
What about?

No idiot stu! I don't want XP. :angry2:
I was wondering about the crap he said that I shouldn't try to dual boot Win95. He lies, yes? :biggrin2:

Thanks. I didn't think so but I don't have much experience with hardware and different OS so I thought I better ask. :o

It is kind of in a way true, but he has it backwards, most systems won't support win95 for the fun of it I tried installing it on my computer and on a few others that were new and pretty fast, it will not work. You also can not do an upgrade from win95 to winXP

After SP1 came out for XP I have had absolutly no problems and it is the most convineint OS there is. I love being able to plug almost anything in and instantly it is installed and useable, like cameras, printers, and most cards of pretty much any type. And if you don't think your software will run on XP all you have to do is run a compatibility layer, which almsot always works. Nevertheless I have two computers running XP professional and one with win2k

Hey, so to get rif od Win2k, just delete the WINNT and Documents and Settings folders?
And what about all of the extra registry stuff?

That isn't the reason I don't like XP though... I just don't like the look of it. I know you can easily change it, but still... XP would also slow down my system even more than it already is.

Well if they are partitioned from eachother they will each have seperate registrys, I am not 100% sure, but I had no problems when I did it, so neither should you, you just kinda have to tinker with it :S

Uh, I would back up your stuff, just in case ;) it should work though
I also believe that is why when you try to install two OS's on the same partitions windows warns you not to.
