Cheaper than Rackshack?ViEtGuRL April 17th, 2002, 17:09 Are there any other places that offer dedicated servers for just a little (don't need like a free one or anything) cheaper than RackShack that is pretty good quality? MN-Carl April 17th, 2002, 17:28 cheaper per month or cheaper setup :confused2 Chicken April 17th, 2002, 18:43 There are sub-$100 dedicated server offers. I couldn't recommend one place over another (nor can I think of any off the top of my head), however they do exist. There are also VPS (Virtual Private Servers), which are similar (you still get root and can install anything you need for the most part). These plans are generally $50 on up. ducktape April 17th, 2002, 18:49 tera-byte has a vps for $69 a month with no setup i think 2 gigs of space and im not sure of transfer. mewgood April 17th, 2002, 19:13 I think RackShack is the cheapest. They offer 400gb.. I don't think other companies can off this for 100 dollars a month.. Haze April 17th, 2002, 20:09 I think these might be of interest: http://www.eservers.biz which is a reseller for: http://www.tranxactglobal.com Also, worth a mention is: http://www.webreseller.net Gayowulf April 17th, 2002, 23:59 Rackshack is cheap, but, in many ways, you are getting what you pay for. If not less. eservers.biz have skyhigh setup prices, and rock bottom monthly payments. averaged over a year it is cheaper than RS. I have never used eservers.biz before, so I cant comment on performance. You basically have two choices economy or performance and service. if you want cheap go with RS or eservers.biz i doubt you will score better than that unless you have your own server to colo somewhere. If you want performance there are countless other places to check out murat April 18th, 2002, 06:48 i heard there is a german one which is cheaper than rackshack, but i forget the url  Technics April 18th, 2002, 08:20 http://www.4webspace.com is an alternative. Haze April 18th, 2002, 19:31 Actually eservers.biz servers are much better in quality that RackShack.net, thats why they have a higher setup. Bruce April 18th, 2002, 19:59 RackShack's P4 special is just insane though. P4 1.7GHz, 1GB RAM, 2 60GB HD, and 600GB data transfer for $139. No one can compete with prices like that. Perhaps you may find a provider that has an old box laying around that you could get for a low price, but you'l be lucky to find much of anything cheaper than RS. Gayowulf April 18th, 2002, 23:32 The thing with those is that they sell out so fast. :( How is p4 as a server processor? murat April 19th, 2002, 07:28 here is a cheap german one www.server4free.de you only pay the transfer, not the server ducktape April 19th, 2002, 09:24 Originally posted by murat here is a cheap german one www.server4free.de you only pay the transfer, not the server So cheap all they could afford is a 404 :D Peo April 19th, 2002, 10:01 huh? the site loads fine for me. ac3 April 19th, 2002, 10:39 Originally posted by Gayowulf How is p4 as a server processor? P4 as server = ---- If i had the choice, i'd choose dual or even single P3. P4 is a performance chip, nothing else. Bruce April 19th, 2002, 10:53 But still, for that price I'd take anything. Even seeing as they use Cogent, the bandwidth itself is still worth more than what they're charging. ducktape April 19th, 2002, 10:56 Originally posted by Peo huh? the site loads fine for me. it loads for me now too! Archbob April 20th, 2002, 18:50 I haven't seen a dedicated services cheaper and rackshack, most I've seen under $100 are co-location. Daniel April 20th, 2002, 20:40 IF I convince my boss, I can colo for free  BTW, my work doesn't have the dual t3s anymore, we now have an full duplex OC-3. :D murat April 27th, 2002, 15:34 Originally posted by Archbob I haven't seen a dedicated services cheaper and rackshack, most I've seen under $100 are co-location. whats a co location ? xsnetwork April 27th, 2002, 15:52 co-location is where you house YOUR OWN server at somewhere with mucho bandwith (hopefully) and you pay them for monthly for powering your server and providing the bandwith to YOUR server etc PaRaDoX May 26th, 2002, 20:36 Isn't that similar to reselling? Daniel May 26th, 2002, 21:04 Originally posted by PaRaDoX Isn't that similar to reselling? No.... reselling is reselling your paid space of a server from a company. Co-location is that you send in your own server(you can send in a peice of crap from your basement) and have it hooked up to the companies connection. akaize June 5th, 2002, 15:36 Can I know some VDS providers? Daniel June 5th, 2002, 21:18 www.terra-byte.com BurstNET June 7th, 2002, 00:35 Check out our new NOCSTER line of sub-$100 MANAGED dedicated server offerings: http://www.nocster.net Sean R. Do they still have that deal? url.... Moonman June 25th, 2002, 02:41 woah talk about major thread digging, im not sure about that rackshack offer, but eservers.biz now has no setup and 500GB transfer. Daniel June 25th, 2002, 17:41 Originally posted by Moonman woah talk about major thread digging Erm...this was still one of the top threads in the forum. Bruce June 25th, 2002, 18:52 Originally posted by Daniel Erm...this was still one of the top threads in the forum. Well, the thread is two months old. Daniel June 25th, 2002, 20:50 Originally posted by Bruce Well, the thread is two months old. But it was still at the top of the list of threads in this forum so how can you dig it up? It was already at the top. :chinese2: guitarnerd June 25th, 2002, 20:59 Dude not many people post in this forum so stop arguing Daniel June 25th, 2002, 21:11 Originally posted by guitarnerd Dude not many people post in this forum so stop arguing Exactly my point. So how is it possible to dig up a thread here? Bruce June 25th, 2002, 21:16 Originally posted by Daniel So how is it possible to dig up a thread here? It's a figure of speech. Replying to a thread more than a week or so old is considered 'digging up a thread'. Where the thread is located on a page is irrelavant. guitarnerd June 26th, 2002, 02:09 Even if you don't want to consider it "digging it up" it is like if a court where to bring up a law suit that is 2 years old and have another trial. A mod should just close this xzx June 26th, 2002, 10:16 Well, No one is actually posting anything relevant so this tread should be closed. | ||||
